Penguins Add To Blue Line Uncertainty Before Tough Road Stretch

As David Breazeale rejoins the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, fans eagerly anticipate the impact of the seasoned defenseman's return ahead of the clash with the Charlotte Checkers.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins made a roster move Thursday, recalling defenseman David Breazeale from their ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades.

Breazeale, 26, has opened the season with Florida, where he has appeared in four games and picked up one assist. He also has recent experience with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, skating in nine regular-season games as a rookie last season and then adding two Calder Cup Playoff appearances.

In 11 career regular-season games with the Penguins, the Grandville, Michigan native has four points, including one goal and three assists, along with 10 penalty minutes.

Breazeale joined Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a two-year contract in 2025 after finishing his senior year at the University of Maine. As captain, he helped the Black Bears win their first Hockey East Championship in 21 years. Over 144 collegiate games at Maine, he totaled 51 points on eight goals and 43 assists.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s schedule now shifts south, where it will face the Charlotte Checkers in the first of back-to-back games on Friday, Nov. 6. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. at Bojangles’ Coliseum.

The Penguins return home next for a Tuesday, Nov. 10 matchup with the Utica Comets, their first Winning Weekday of the season. If they win, fans in attendance will receive a free ticket to the team’s next mid-week home game. That one is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza.

Season-ticket packages for the Penguins’ 2026-27 season are on sale now, with Full-Season, 22-game, 12-game, Flexbook and Premium Seating plans available by contacting the team at (570) 208-7367. Individual-game tickets can also be purchased through wbspenguins.com, the Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza Box Office or by calling the Penguins’ front office at the same number.

Penguins Need Answers Fast As Another Lineup Shakeup Hits

The Penguins are back at PPG Paints Arena on a night that already feels like a test case for a team still searching for answers. They enter against the Vegas Golden Knights with a difficult record and another round of lineup uncertainty hanging over them, while Vegas arrives off a shootout loss to the Boston Bruins and dealing with its own recent injury-related changes. Pittsburgh will also unveil its Hometown Remix jerseys, adding a little pageantry to a game that otherwise has plenty of pressure attached to it.

In goal, the Penguins have confirmed Arturs Silovs as the starter, a notable call as they try to steady things in net and stop the skid from getting any deeper. Vegas is expected to go with Adin Hill, leaving both sides to navigate a matchup shaped as much by availability as by form. For Pittsburgh, the bigger issue is whether the latest shakeup can produce a cleaner performance before the standings start to tighten even more. [Read more 🡒]

Penguins Rough Start Is Forcing A Roster Debate Pittsburgh Feared

The Penguins first 14 games have already turned into the kind of early-season grind that exposes every roster flaw, and this one has been no exception. With only 12 points in the bank, Pittsburgh has spent much of the opening stretch trying to find the right balance between competing now and developing for later, even as general manager Kyle Dubas heavy investment in forwards has created a crowded depth chart that makes it harder to keep young players in the lineup.

There have been some encouraging signs, with Evgeni Malkin among the players holding up reasonably well, but the uneven production around him has only sharpened the sense that something may need to give. Egor Chinakhov has not given the club the kind of lift it hoped for, and with the standings already looking shaky, the Penguins are drifting toward the sort of roster conversation Pittsburgh expected to avoid this early in the season. Penguins Lineup Shuffle Just Got More Urgent Before Brutal Stretch

The Penguins depth chart is getting a fresh test just as the schedule starts to tighten up. Kaeden Korczak is day-to-day with an injury, and that has opened the door for defenseman Jake Livanavage to get his first call-up of the season, while Justin Brazeau has been cleared to rejoin the NHL roster after a conditioning stint in the AHL. With Elmer Soderblom still week-to-week and Evgeni Malkin also day-to-day, the margin for error is already shrinking.

Now comes a stretch of four games in six days, the kind of run that can expose every soft spot in a lineup. For Pittsburgh, the timing makes these roster moves feel less like routine shuffling and more like a necessary reset, with the coaching staff likely to keep adjusting as it tries to piece together a workable group through the injuries.
