Casey DeSmith Sends Emotional Message Before Pittsburgh Return

Casey DeSmith shares heartfelt reflections and a hopeful outlook as he prepares for a meaningful return to Pittsburgh with the Dallas Stars.

Casey DeSmith's Sentimental Return to Pittsburgh

Dallas Stars goalie Casey DeSmith is gearing up for an emotional return to PPG Paints Arena, a place filled with fond memories from his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins between 2017 and 2023. As he prepares to face his former team, DeSmith reflects on the special moments he experienced in Pittsburgh.

“It’s always a treat to come back here,” DeSmith shared after Friday's morning practice. “I’ve been out West for a while, so visits are rare, making them all the more special.”

While he’s back in town, DeSmith is reminded of the local spots he and his family used to frequent. “We lived up north, so our favorite restaurants are a bit of a trek from downtown where we’re staying. We’ll probably just stick around the hotel this time.”

Awaiting His Moment on the Ice

Though Jake Oettinger was the starting goalie against the New York Islanders on Thursday, DeSmith holds onto the hope of playing in front of the Pittsburgh crowd once more. “It’s exciting just to be here,” he expressed.

“I haven’t had a chance to play a return game here yet. If it’s not this time, maybe next year.

Just being in the building, feeling the energy from the fans, it’s something special.”

Staying Focused Amidst Challenges

Discussing the current challenges faced by the Dallas Stars, DeSmith emphasized the importance of resilience and positivity. “We’re fighting to find our way out. Every team hits rough patches, and while no one enjoys losing, it’s crucial to maintain a positive mindset to turn things around.”

DeSmith added, “You can’t dwell in negativity and expect to improve. Staying positive and working hard is key. No one’s panicking, we’re just focused on competing.”

As DeSmith prepares for the game, his return to Pittsburgh serves as a reminder of the deep connections formed during his career and the ever-present drive to excel, no matter the challenges ahead.
