Pitt’s 2026-27 roster is taking shape one jersey number at a time, and Tuesday night brought the first real peek at what the Panthers’ 13 newcomers will look like when they hit the floor.
The group includes 11 transfers and two incoming freshmen, and most of the transfers settled into numbers they had already worn before arriving at Pitt. One choice stands out above the rest, though: 26 for Armani Mighty, a number that had not been worn at Pitt since 1957.
Mighty wore 2 as a freshman at Boston College, then moved to 26 in his second season with the Eagles and kept it after transferring to Mercer last year. He becomes just the third Pitt player ever to wear 26.
Several other newcomers followed familiar paths. Jonathan Powell, who wore 11 at North Carolina and West Virginia, will take 0, a number last worn at Pitt by Amdy Ndiaye over the past two seasons. Powell is the 12th Panther to wear 0.
Jalil Bethea will go with 1 after wearing 3 as a freshman at Miami and 1 last season at Alabama. He is the 10th Pitt player to wear that number. Dishon Jackson was supposed to wear 1 at Pitt last season but did not play, so he is not counted among the school’s all-time players in that spot.
Naithan George is staying with 2, the number he wore as a freshman at Georgia Tech before switching to 1 and then 11 at Syracuse last season. He is the 11th Pitt player to wear 2, which Cam Corhen had for the last two seasons.
A’lahn Sumler will wear 3 after using 4 as a freshman at Northern Kentucky and then 11 and 1 in his two years at Charleston Southern. He is the 17th Pitt player to take 3, which Brandin Cummings wore over the last two seasons.
Ibrahim Souare is moving into 4 after wearing 30 at Georgia Tech and 10 at Syracuse last season. He becomes the 26th Panther to wear 4, following Papa Amadou Kante, who had it for the last three years.
Chase Foster picked 7, making him the seventh Pitt player to wear it. Damarco Minor wore 7 for Pitt last season.
Baye Ndongo will wear 11, the number he used in all three of his seasons at Georgia Tech. He is the 23rd Pitt player to wear 11, which Marlon Barnes wore two years ago.
Jermal Jones will wear 13, making him the 18th Pitt player all-time in that number. Roman Siulepa wore 13 for Pitt last year.
Macari Moore is staying with 21, the number he chose when he arrived at Pitt as a freshman last season. He becomes the 21st Panther to wear 21.
Colin Hawkins, who wore 23 at Gardner-Webb, will keep that number at Pitt. He is the 17th player in program history to wear 23. John Hugley was the last Panther to wear it before switching to 4.
Dominique Diomande will wear 25 after using 30 as a freshman at Washington and 24 during his season at BYU. He is the 13th Pitt player to wear 25, taking over from Nojus Indrusaitis.
Kraig Gilbert will wear 33 after using it at Concord. Fourteen Pitt players have worn 33, most recently Federiko Federiko in 2022-23 and 2023-24.
Ben Mayhew is moving from 13 to 35. He wore 13 in his first two seasons at Pitt and switched to 35 last year. He is the 11th Panther to wear 35.
Jajuan Nelson is staying with 44, which he has worn the last three seasons. He is the 15th Pitt player to wear that number.
Timofei Rudovskii will wear 99.
