Pitt Offensive Line Struggles Expose Bigger Problems

Pitt football faces crucial adjustments as underperforming units raise concerns for the season ahead.

After just two games in the 2022 season, it's evident that Pitt's offensive line, despite its wealth of returning starters, hasn't lived up to expectations. The experience was supposed to be a strength, yet the reality has been two quarterbacks facing relentless pressure, leading to significant disruptions in the passing game.

The linebackers have shown mixed performances. In their opener against West Virginia, missed assignments were a glaring issue. However, there was noticeable improvement in stopping the run during the second game against Tennessee, although their pass coverage left room for improvement.

As for the secondary, it’s been a struggle. Slips and falls, poor ball awareness, and mismatches have been the story. Much of this stems from the one-on-one coverage scheme favored by Coach Pat Narduzzi, which has exposed the defensive backs to challenging situations.

Addressing these issues requires strategic adjustments. Ryan Jacoby, who has lived up to his Ohio State reputation, needs to be on the field.

A suggested move would be shifting him to Right Guard, sliding Kradel to center, and bringing in Branson Taylor to replace the current right tackle. These changes could provide the stability and protection needed to turn things around.
