Pitt Makes A Quarterback Move That Changes The Boston College Stakes

Pitt makes a bold move by starting promising freshman Corey Dailey at quarterback, igniting intrigue and anticipation ahead of their matchup against Boston College.

Pitt is turning to a new face under center, and this time it’s true freshman Corey Dailey getting the call over fifth-year senior Holden Geriner for the matchup with Boston College, according to Matt Heinitz of CBS Sports.

The move comes after Geriner’s mixed stretch in Pitt’s recent quarterback shuffle. He helped the Panthers grab a road win at Virginia Tech, but his first official start was far rougher in the 21-17 loss to North Carolina. In that game, Geriner completed 27 of 44 passes for 219 yards, threw two interceptions, rushed for minus-1 yard and also missed open targets.

Even though head coach Pat Narduzzi said after the game that Geriner would stay in the job, that didn’t lock anything in. Narduzzi has changed course before, including last year when he said Pitt was sticking with quarterback Eli Holstein for Week 5 against Boston College before instead handing the start to then-true freshman Mason Heintschel.

That decision worked out. Heintschel emerged as one of Pitt’s better young quarterbacks before an ACL tear ended his season, leaving the staff to sort through another unsettled situation.

Dailey arrives with serious credentials. The Texas product was a four-star recruit, stood 6-foot-6, and started at Seguin High School for four straight years. He also left the school with records in total touchdowns, passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions and total yards, which helped make him the No. 13 quarterback in the country in his class, according to 247Sports.

He graduated early and enrolled at Pitt in January 2026, and while he hasn’t shown up on most depth charts, he has already gotten a taste of game action. In the blowout win over Bucknell, Narduzzi had Dailey run a real drive instead of simply kneeling out the clock. The freshman responded by going 3-for-5 for 57 yards and a touchdown.

"We need to see him play," Narduzzi said about that decision.

That snap of live action matters now, because Pitt will be asking Dailey to do it against far more than Bucknell’s backups. Boston College sits at 2-3, but this is still a much bigger test for a freshman making his first start.

With Geriner, Pitt already has a pretty clear read on what he brings. With Dailey, the range of outcomes is wider. And that’s exactly why this quarterback move carries so much weight for the Panthers.

Narduzzi Just Left Pitt Fans With A Bigger Question Before Miami

Pat Narduzzi left Boston College with more than just a 27-21 loss to explain, as Pitts coach spent his postgame session sorting through the decision to start Corey Dailey after a week-long competition. Narduzzi walked through the offenses uneven showing, pointed to penalties and defensive struggles, and said the staff would have to go back over the tape before turning the page to Miami.

What makes the next few days especially important is that the evaluation is still ongoing. Narduzzi made clear the Panthers still need to study what went wrong, and with Miami next on the schedule, the quarterback picture is still unresolved heading into another big ACC test. [Read more 🡒]

Boston College Gets A Needed Boost For A Crucial Pitt Test

Boston College is trying to steady itself at the right time, and a pair of familiar bodies is expected to help. As the Eagles prepare to host Pitt in an ACC matchup, they are still searching for their first conference win after back-to-back losses, but the roster should look a little healthier with linebacker Bodie Kahoun and offensive lineman Michael Crounse back in the mix.

The timing matters because Pitt arrives with only one loss on the season after falling to UNC, so this is hardly a game Boston College can treat lightly. The Eagles will need every bit of help they can get up front and on defense, even if the returnees are easing back into action rather than immediately taking on their full workload. [Read more 🡒]

Boston College Finally Stopped The Slide In A Wild Pitt Escape

Boston College arrived at Acrisure Stadium in need of a reset and got it in a hurry, edging Pitt 27-21 in a game that swung back and forth all afternoon. The Eagles were coming off a two-game slide, and they found enough offense from Phil Jurkovec, who connected with Javarius Green and Landon Wright for touchdowns, while Bo MacCormack III and Evan Dickens added scoring runs to keep the pressure on the Panthers.

Pitt still had chances deep into the fourth quarter, which made the finish sting even more for a home crowd that watched the lead change hands multiple times. The game tightened into a sequence of turnovers and tension late, with both defenses forcing key interceptions as Boston College tried to close out a much-needed road win and Pitt was left looking at a missed opportunity.
