Pitt Is Making Saturdays At Acrisure Feel Very Different

Pitt Football transforms gameday with a vibrant lineup of new pregame experiences, featuring activities and entertainment for all ages.

Pitt is making the hours before kickoff a bigger part of the show this season.

With the 2026 home slate, the Panthers are rolling out an expanded pregame setup around Acrisure Stadium, adding more entertainment, more family programming and more places for fans to gather before heading inside. The centerpiece remains Roc'n on Rooney presented by RE/MAX Select Realty, but the experience on Art Rooney Avenue is getting a noticeable upgrade, and the Great Lawn is now part of the plan too.

Roc'n on Rooney opens three hours before kickoff at every home game, and this year it comes with a broader mix of vendors, sponsor activations, lawn games and family-friendly activities. One of the biggest additions is a dedicated kids zone on the turf field next to Art Rooney Avenue, featuring Pitt-themed inflatables, games and activities. Pitt says the lineup will change from week to week.

The Sept. 12 Kids Day game against UCF will feature an expanded kids tailgate with Kona Ice, the Hoops Pittsburgh basketball trailer, inflatables and face painting.

Music is also getting a bigger role. Pitt will bring live concerts to three home games on the south end of Art Rooney Avenue.

The Commonheart will headline the “Party on the North Shore” before the Thursday night game against Syracuse on Sept. 17.

DJs C. Scott and Moemaw are scheduled for the Bucknell game on Sept. 26, and the Bastard Bearded Irishmen will play ahead of the Oct. 10 matchup with North Carolina.

Fans who want food, drinks and a place to watch college football from around the country can stop by Franco's before heading into the stadium. Alcoholic beverages will be available there as well.

Another familiar scene is also back. Fans are being told to get to Art Rooney Avenue about two and a half hours before kickoff for the Panther Prowl, when the Pitt football team arrives at Acrisure Stadium escorted by the Pitt Marching Band and Pitt Spirit Teams.

The schedule around the stadium is built to feel different every week. Sept. 5, the home opener against Miami (Ohio), will feature Ribfest on Art Rooney Avenue.

Sept. 12 brings Kids Day and the expanded kids tailgate. Sept. 17 against Syracuse includes the concert from The Commonheart and the expanded kids zone.

Homecoming on Sept. 26 against Bucknell adds a mobile golf simulator and closest-to-the-pin competition, along with live music from C. Scott and Moemaw and the kids zone.

Oct. 10 against North Carolina is being billed as a celebration 50 years in the making, with Pitt honoring the golden anniversary of its 1976 national championship team while also tying in an Ireland-themed party connected to the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. The Bastard Bearded Irishmen will perform that day.

Later in the season, Oct. 31 against Georgia Tech will bring a Hail to Heroes/Halloween celebration with trick-or-treating, the kids zone and a lineup of military and first responder vehicles and organizations. The regular-season home finale on Nov. 13 against Florida State will be Senior Day, with the kids zone and additional sponsor and fan activities closing out the exterior schedule.

For fans looking to build their own pregame setup, Pitt is also offering turnkey tailgating on the Great Lawn through REVELxp. The packages are designed to provide the full college football tailgating experience without the hassle of bringing gear, setting up or tearing down.

Pitt says the expanded offerings on Art Rooney Avenue and the Great Lawn are meant to create a more complete pregame destination around Acrisure Stadium and make arriving early part of the game day routine. Specific timing, entertainment, vendors and activities will be announced before each home game.

Desmond Reid Hope Just Took A Tough Turn For Pitt

A possible college football return for Desmond Reid has taken a sharp detour. After being waived by the Buffalo Bills, the former Pitt running back had been exploring the idea of another season in college, a path that suddenly looked more realistic when a previous court ruling appeared to create an extra year of eligibility for some athletes.

Now the landscape has changed. The Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals has reversed that ruling, stripping away the added year for players who began their college careers in the 2022-23 season, and Reid is now unlikely to regain eligibility under it. The decision does not affect athletes protected by temporary restraining orders in state courts, leaving a patchwork of possibilities across the sport while Reids own path back to the field appears to be closing fast. Narduzzi Just Raised Two Big Questions For Pitt's Defense

Training camp has given Pat Narduzzi a better look at where the Pittsburgh defense stands, and the picture is still coming into focus. Before a Panthers practice, he walked through the groups progress, pointing to the work of key leaders and the steady tone being set on that side of the ball while the staff continues sorting through defensive packages and overall depth.

Safety is one of the spots drawing the most attention, with Tony Forney, Cruce Brookings, Cole Woodson and Shawn Lee all part of the conversation as Pitt evaluates who can handle bigger roles. Narduzzi also touched on the situations involving Desmond Reid and Justin Holmes in the wake of a recent legal ruling, another layer of uncertainty as the Panthers keep adjusting their plans on defense and waiting for the roster to settle. Braylan Lovelace Keeps Giving Pitt Fans Another Reason To Believe

Braylan Lovelace keeps stacking up the kind of preseason recognition that tends to turn a linebacker into a centerpiece of a defense before the first snap is even played. The rising senior has already drawn preseason All-ACC attention, and his resume has only grown stronger as national award lists continue to take notice of what he has done at Pitt.

Lovelace now sits among the names in the mix for the sports top defensive honors, another sign that the expectations around him are rising fast. For Pitt, the interesting part is not just the hardware chatter, but how much more room there is for that profile to grow before the final verdict comes in December at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
