Suns Suddenly Face A Rotation Concern They Cant Afford Tonight

Key bench player Jordan Goodwin's unexpected exit due to a calf injury leaves the Suns facing a significant challenge against the Warriors.

The Phoenix Suns lost one of their most active bench pieces Monday night, with Jordan Goodwin ruled out for the rest of the game against the Golden State Warriors after leaving with a calf injury late in the first half.

Goodwin headed to the locker room while hobbling and did not return, getting ruled out just as the third quarter was set to begin. Before exiting, he had posted four points, two rebounds, two assists, one steal and a minus-2 in the box score.

At the time of publish, Phoenix was up 60-54 on Golden State.

The injury comes at a bad moment for the Suns, who are now down one of their top reserve rebounders and a player whose energy has become a steady part of what Jordan Ott leans on. Goodwin’s nightly hustle has made him a useful piece for Phoenix, especially in the areas that don’t always show up in the flashiest way.

“I am just trying to make it difficult for them, trying to get the shot clock down. Just get extra possessions for our team but I do take on a lot of assignments, and it’s not just me,” Goodwin said last season on his role for Phoenix.

“I got the bigs behind me, guys giving me good shifts and stuff like that, so it’s really a team effort. I’m just trying to make it difficult.”

Phoenix brought Goodwin back this offseason on a three-year, $19 million deal, a move that drew praise from the organization. After the signing, general manager Brian Gregory said, “Jordan plays with relentless effort and competes every game with the kind of toughness that defines our culture,”

“He has a unique ability to create extra possessions through his offensive rebounding and by forcing turnovers. His competitiveness and energy are invaluable, and he is a perfect fit for what we are building in Phoenix.”

Through this season, Goodwin is averaging 8.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

Dillon Brooks Just Reignited A Frustrating Suns Debate

Dillon Brooks latest run-in with the officials came in a game against the Denver Nuggets, where he was ejected for excessive contact on a play he and his teammates viewed as far less malicious than the whistle suggested. Brooks said the contact was unintentional and pointed out that the referees reviewed the sequence multiple times, which only added to the sense that the call was shaped as much by his reputation as by what happened in the moment.

For the Suns, it is the kind of episode that keeps a familiar debate alive around Brooks: where the line sits between his physical edge and the way officials react when he is involved. He will not be suspended and is expected to be available against the Golden State Warriors, but the larger question lingers around how much his style continues to invite scrutiny every time he steps into a high-stakes game. Draymond Green Added Another Ugly Twist To Suns Warriors Rivalry

The Warriors-Suns rivalry picked up another nasty edge on Tuesday night, and Draymond Green was right in the middle of it. Early in the third quarter, Green got tangled up in a physical sequence that spilled into a confrontation with Dillon Brooks, turning a tense game into one of those moments that instantly feels bigger than the box score.

Green was assessed a double technical foul and ejected after dragging teammate Khaman Maluach to the floor, a sequence that only added to the bad blood between two teams that rarely need much help finding it. Golden State still held on for a 116-113 win, stretching its streak to five, but the lasting image for Suns fans was the latest ugly twist in a matchup that keeps finding new ways to boil over. Pelicans Face A Dejounte Murray Decision Fans Will Debate

The Suns point guard search has become one of the more persistent questions around the roster, and it is easy to see why. Devin Booker can carry a huge offensive load, but Phoenix has been looking for a steadier organizer next to him, someone who can help settle possessions and keep the attack from drifting into stretches of isolation-heavy basketball.

One proposed answer has the Suns sending Jalen Green and a 2027 second-round pick to New Orleans for Dejounte Murray, a move that would bring experience and playmaking but also carry real financial and injury concerns. The idea fits the frustration that has been bubbling around the Suns locker room over the lack of a dependable point guard, yet it remains the kind of swap that invites debate because the upside is obvious even if the risk is just as clear.
