The Phoenix Suns have made another commitment to their new-look core, agreeing to a three-year, $73 million extension with forward Dillon Brooks, according to Mike George of Klutch Sports, who told ESPN’s Shams Charania.
The deal keeps Brooks off the market well ahead of time. He had one year left on his contract and was set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2027, but now he is under team control through the 2029-30 season.
Brooks landed in Phoenix last July as part of the blockbuster trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets. Before that, he spent six seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, then followed with a two-year stint in Houston.
On the floor, the 30-year-old delivered one of his stronger scoring seasons, averaging 20.2 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 43.5% from the field in 56 games. He also connected on 34.4% of his three-point tries and gave Phoenix a real edge on defense, helping anchor a unit that finished eighth in points allowed per game.
Brooks is the latest piece the Suns have locked up on multi-year money this offseason. Phoenix has also signed Collin Gillespie, Mark Williams and Jordan Goodwin to multiyear deals.
The Suns were one of last season’s surprises, finishing eighth in the Western Conference with a 45-37 record to reach the playoffs.
They’ve also been active elsewhere, adding Miles Bridges in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets and signing Luke Kennard to a two-year, $13 million contract in free agency.
