“I’ll tell you that I know that guy that you’re referencing, and he’s a great player and a winner on the court,” Ishbia said. But he followed it up with a clear-cut statement: “There’s nothing to it right now.”
That’s the kind of answer that speaks volumes if you’re paying attention. It’s respectful, it acknowledges the talent, but it also draws a line in the sand. For now, the Suns aren’t in pursuit.
And frankly, that checks out with what we’ve seen from this team.
This season in Phoenix has been about cohesion, resilience, and a steady build toward something bigger. There’s a quiet confidence growing within the locker room - a belief that this group, as currently constructed, has the pieces to make a run. Disrupting that chemistry for a midseason swing at a polarizing player doesn’t align with the tone or trajectory of the campaign.
The Suns have been through enough turbulence in recent seasons. What they’ve built this year - a mix of toughness, patience, and internal growth - has them right where they want to be: competitive, connected, and climbing.
So, while the trade deadline will surely bring fireworks elsewhere, don’t expect Phoenix to light the fuse just for the sake of making noise. Based on Ishbia’s comments and the Suns’ current momentum, they’re playing the long game. And that might be the smartest move they make all season.
