LeBron James’ free agency has been dragging on, and one former teammate thinks there may be a bigger chain reaction behind it.
Markieff Morris, who won an NBA championship alongside James with the Lakers, floated a wild three-team idea on Wednesday that would send James Harden to Phoenix, Jalen Green to Cleveland and LeBron James to the Cavaliers. Morris posted the thought on X, but did not say whether he was making a prediction or passing along inside information.

For that to happen, the Cavs would need to work out a sign-and-trade for Harden, who is technically still a free agent, with the Phoenix Suns. Cleveland would then land Green in the deal, and that move would apparently open the door for James to head to town as well.
The fit would be eye-catching. A backcourt of Green and Donovan Mitchell would bring plenty of scoring, even if the size and defensive questions are obvious. Add James to a starting group that already includes Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, and Cleveland would suddenly have one of the league’s most imposing first units.
There had been no previous buzz connecting Green to Cleveland, which makes Morris’ post stand out even more. Whether it’s real information or just a sharp guess, it’s the kind of idea that gets people talking.
Around the league, plenty of voices have been tossing out supposed intel lately. Most of it has gone nowhere. The basketball world will be waiting to see whether Morris is actually onto something.
