Houston Rockets' star Kevin Durant finds himself in the spotlight once again, thanks to a potential burner account stirring up controversy. This account has surfaced online, allegedly showcasing Durant's candid thoughts, including some less-than-flattering comments about both current and former teammates. Devin Booker, his former co-star from Phoenix, was frequently mentioned, and he recently addressed the situation ahead of his game.
“I was just with him All-Star weekend. Nothing was said about it,” Booker noted.
“You don’t know what’s true and what’s not nowadays. I don’t pay too much attention to it.
Even if it is true, I understand there are trolls nowadays. That’s what a lot of social media is.
It’s trolling, and it’s a good time. It’s a fun time.
I don’t take any of it too personally.”
Under the alleged alias ‘gethigher77,’ Durant reportedly expressed his views on his stint with the Suns, comparing Booker to a “dictator” and implying a shift in team ownership based on wins and losses. Despite their long-standing friendship, dating back to before their Phoenix days, it seems Durant's departure from the Suns might have some ties to this dynamic.
Booker, however, isn't letting the drama distract him. He’s focused on what he can control and isn’t harboring any grudges against Durant. Having been Durant’s teammate for over two seasons, Booker is no stranger to Durant’s social media escapades and remains unfazed by the controversy.
Draymond Green, another figure familiar with Durant’s complexities, weighed in during his podcast. While he didn’t outright condemn Durant, he acknowledged the awkwardness such situations can create within a team.
“I personally would address it publicly if it’s a public thing and taking on the life that it’s taken. But to each his own,” Green stated.
“But I’ll tell you what, if it is, I don’t know how you walk back into practice, I mean, walking back into practice after the break, almost you walk into the locker room, it probably feels like a Key & Peele sketch. Just a little awkward, like what do you do?
Uh, what’s up, bro? I don’t know.
Yeah, but anyway, these are alleged. It’s alleged to be KD’s burner account.
Maybe one day we’ll know the truth. Maybe we already know the truth.”
Having shared the court with Durant for three seasons and clinching two championships together, Green knows the ups and downs of a high-profile NBA relationship. Despite their past fallout, which led to Durant’s exit, the two have mended fences to some extent. Yet, Green admits that Durant’s actions haven’t exactly smoothed the path for his new team.
Green himself is no stranger to locker room tension, having had his own share of controversies. While Durant’s situation might not be as dramatic, the potential for disruption is there, especially for a team that relies heavily on chemistry and unity.
