Surprise Eagles Trade Could Be Nightmare News For Jalen Hurts

Eagles bolster their quarterback lineup by trading for veteran Andy Dalton, adding experience and depth to their roster.

In a move that adds a layer of experience to their quarterback room, the Eagles have struck a deal with the Panthers to bring veteran QB Andy Dalton to Philadelphia. In exchange, the Panthers receive a 2027 seventh-round pick, a savvy move considering their aim to rejuvenate their backup quarterback lineup.

Carolina's decision to part with Dalton comes after their acquisition of Kenny Pickett, signaling a shift towards a younger backup strategy. By securing a draft pick rather than releasing Dalton, the Panthers have managed to extract value from a player they were ready to move on from.

For the Eagles, Dalton's arrival bolsters their depth chart, where Tanner McKee remains under contract as last season’s No. 2 quarterback. McKee's name has floated in trade talks, making Dalton’s veteran presence even more crucial.

Dalton, now 38, was initially drafted by the Bengals in the second round back in 2011. His career journey has seen him sign a significant seven-year, $97.09 million contract with Cincinnati, which included $17 million guaranteed. After being released, Dalton had stints with the Cowboys, Bears, and Saints before landing with the Panthers.

During the 2025 season, Dalton made appearances in four games for Carolina, starting in one. He completed 67.6 percent of his passes, going 25-of-37 for 293 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. This trade not only provides the Eagles with a seasoned backup option but also allows Dalton the opportunity to contribute to a team with playoff aspirations.
