The slump was real from the end of July through that Field of Dreams matchup, but the timing of this turnaround could hardly be better. Philadelphia has won nine straight, and the latest burst came in dramatic fashion, with MLB highlighting the club’s “6 RUNS IN THE 9TH” on the way to “9 STRAIGHT WINS.”
For now, the Phillies are no longer hanging around the NL Wild Card scramble. That conversation still belongs to teams like the San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are battling for that final spot.
Philadelphia sits two games up on both of them in the NL West and two games behind the Chicago Cubs for the No. 1 Wild Card position.
