Phillies Are Being Linked To A Gold Glove Outfielder Phillies Fans Want

With an eye on strengthening their lineup, the Phillies could set their sights on Gold Glove outfielder Steven Kwan from the Guardians this offseason.

The Phillies are already staring at the 2027 season, and one of the cleaner fits on the trade market could come from Cleveland.

Dayn Perry of CBS Sports included Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan on his list of the Top 25 MLB trade candidates for the 2026-27 offseason, and Philadelphia is one of the teams he named as a possible landing spot. Perry also listed the Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners as the other most likely destinations.

Kwan checks a lot of boxes for a Phillies club that barely slipped into the postseason as a Wild Card team in 2026 before falling to the Atlanta Braves in three games in the NL Wild Card Series. He’s a contact-first hitter who consistently puts the bat on the ball, and he doesn’t give away many at-bats with strikeouts. He also brings elite defense in the outfield.

The numbers back that up. In 2026, Kwan hit .282/.382/.349 with 21 doubles, three triples, three homers, 80 runs scored, 32 RBIs, 10 stolen bases and a .731 OPS. He also set a career high with 85 walks while striking out just 62 times.

It was the second time in his career that the 29-year-old topped 5.0 WAR in a season, and his glove continues to carry major value. Kwan has won four straight Gold Glove Awards in left field, and in 2026 he split his time between left and center, playing 98 games in left and 88 in center.

He was part of a Guardians team that won the AL Central, then rallied from an 0-2 deficit in the ALDS to beat the Chicago White Sox before losing to the Tampa Bay Rays in six games in the ALCS.

Perry put Kwan in the “bold possibility from contenders” bucket, which he defined as “Core contributors on teams with legit playoff/World Series aspirations who, despite those factors, still may be on the block for reasons of salary escalation, to fill roster needs elsewhere, or to make room for an incoming high-ceiling prospect.”

Perry gave Kwan a 30% chance of being traded this offseason, and with Cleveland often moving players before free agency, the fit is easy to see. Kwan is expected to hit free agency after the 2027 season, and the source notes that the Guardians are known to trade talented players the year before they reach the market. The article also says Kwan is anticipated to enter free agency in 2028.

For Philadelphia, the appeal is straightforward: an elite defender who puts the ball in play and doesn’t strike out much would be a major addition.

Phillies Third Base Picture Is Getting Clearer Than Fans Expected

The Phillies are heading into the offseason with the same basic challenge they have carried for years: keep a contending roster intact while working around a heavy payroll and an aging core. Third base has become one of the more interesting spots on the board, too, with Alec Bohm now being linked to a possible departure after a third party projected him to land a two-year deal with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Philadelphia already offered a hint about how it views the position by not extending Bohm a qualifying offer, a move that points toward a different direction rather than a simple reunion. If Bohm is indeed elsewhere next season, the Phillies will have to sort through alternatives, and Aidan Miller has already surfaced as one name in that conversation as the club weighs both immediate contention and longer-term roster planning. Bryce Harper Just Got Bulletin Board Material Phillies Fans Will Hate

Kyle Schwarber is the lone Phillies player in the mix for a National League Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger award, and even that nod comes with a familiar heavyweight in the way. Schwarber is listed among the finalists at designated hitter, where the conversation is really about him and Shohei Ohtani, giving Philadelphia at least one chance to bring home hardware after a season in which Schwarber put together a .232/.354/.503 line with 15 homers and more plate appearances than Ohtani.

The bigger frustration for Phillies fans is what did not happen elsewhere on the ballot, because Bryce Harper was left off the first-base finalist list altogether. Harpers numbers were good enough to stack up with, and in some cases outpace, other nominees, which has already sparked criticism of how the voting shook out. For a fan base that watches Harper closely and expects him to be in these conversations, the omission is the kind of slight that tends to linger. [Read more 🡒]

Phillies Have A Rare Offseason Target Who Solves Two Problems

The Phillies are heading into an offseason where roster upgrades are expected, and Teruaki Sato has emerged as an intriguing name because he checks more than one box at once. The Japanese infielder is entering MLBs posting system after a standout run in Nippon Professional Baseball, where he won both the Central League Triple Crown and MVP awards, and Philadelphia reportedly views him as a potential power bat with enough versatility to help in the infield right away.

What makes Sato especially appealing is the way he fits the Phillies current needs without creating the usual roster-building complications. Unlike some other free-agent targets, signing him would not come with draft pick penalties, which gives the club a cleaner path to add talent while keeping its long-term plans intact. For a team trying to stay competitive now while prospects continue to develop, that kind of short-term coverage and positional flexibility can carry real value. [Read more 🡒]
