Ken Rosenthal Issues Alarming Ronald Acuna Jr. Update

The Atlanta Braves face tough decisions regarding Ronald Acuna Jr.'s future after their postseason exit, as they evaluate team needs and his role moving forward.

The Braves’ season ended in the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the fallout now stretches beyond the lineup card and into Ronald Acuna Jr.’s future. Atlanta’s offense didn’t do enough to get through the series, and Acuna’s postseason struggles were part of the problem.

That puts the Braves in a spot they probably hoped to avoid heading into the offseason. They’re expected to look for help at shortstop, in the rotation and in the bullpen, but the biggest questions may be about one of their biggest names.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic laid out the issue plainly, writing: "Will the 28-year-old ever stay healthy? Will the Braves try to sign him to an extension?

If not, will they consider trading him? Then there is the biggest one: Are his days as a star over?"

Atlanta does have club options of $17 million in 2027 and 2028, and the expectation is that both would be picked up. But that doesn’t settle the larger question of what comes next with Acuna in Atlanta.

If the Braves believe in him, a multi-year extension could be on the table. If they don’t, then the conversation shifts to something far bigger: a possible trade.

That kind of move would not come without interest. Even with Acuna’s postseason issues, injury questions and uncertainty about the long term, teams would line up for a chance to land him. Outfield-needy clubs would be especially aggressive, and the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets and Washington Nationals were all mentioned as possible suitors.

There’s also the fit factor if Atlanta decides to chase help at shortstop. Trea Turner, Francisco Lindor or CJ Abrams could be names that come up in that kind of discussion. The idea of a major deal between rivals is unusual, but the source pointed to the NBA’s rare trade between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers as an example of how bold moves can happen.

Still, a swap like that would require a lot to break right. For now, the key issue is simpler: the Braves have to decide what they believe about Acuna.

Do they trust him to stay healthy? If the answer is yes, then an extension makes sense as the next conversation. If the answer is no, or even just uncertain, then Atlanta may have to seriously consider whether this offseason is the right time to move on from its superstar outfielder.

Phillies May Have Found The Right-Handed Bat Theyve Been Missing

The Phillies postseason exit in the Wild Card Round only sharpened a familiar offseason concern: the lineup could use more impact from the right side, especially in the outfield. Even with a fifth straight playoff trip on the rsum, the way Atlanta handled them in 2026 left plenty of incentive to keep searching for a bat that can lengthen the order and give the offense a different look.

One name already floating in that conversation is Randy Arozarena, who would bring the kind of athletic, middle-of-the-order presence Philadelphia has lacked in spots. Hes coming off a productive year in Seattle and fits the profile of a player who can help in more ways than one, which is exactly why he stands out as the sort of addition the Phillies have been trying to find. Phillies Face A Painful Reset After Playoff Exit

After another playoff exit, the Phillies are left sorting out more than just what went wrong in October. The conversation is already turning toward 2027, with the organization trying to decide which parts of the current core still fit the long view and which pieces need a different direction if the roster is going to avoid another familiar ending.

Among the names drawing the most attention are Alex McFarlane, Andrew Painter and Aidan Miller, all viewed as important future assets because of the promise they bring to the clubs next contender window. At the same time, the front office faces some uncomfortable calls on players whose production has been uneven, and the winter could bring a harder reset than many around the team expected after this latest postseason disappointment. Phillies Face One Offseason Decision That Could Reshape The Outfield

The Phillies offseason checklist already has a few big items, with a new manager search at the top and bullpen help never far behind, but the outfield is shaping up as one of the more intriguing areas to watch. The front office has made clear it wants to rework parts of the roster, and that includes sorting out how best to line up the grass behind a pitching staff that needs more stability and run prevention support.

One possibility gaining traction is a reshuffle that would keep the club from standing pat at the same spots it has already tried. Philadelphia is also weighing whether Derek Hill can stick around as part of a platoon arrangement, while the market for outside help gives the team a chance to add a more dependable bat and glove combination. However the Phillies handle it, this is one of those decisions that could change not just the depth chart, but the look of the lineup around it. [Read more 🡒]
