Eagles Suffer Yet Another Injury Setback

With a slew of injuries potentially shaking up their lineup against the Rams, the Eagles may rely on emerging talent like Jeremiah Trotter Jr. to maintain their perfect record.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 4 injury picture is already getting crowded, and the timing could hardly be more important with the Los Angeles Rams coming to town on Sunday.

Philadelphia had a walkthrough on Wednesday after playing Monday night, so the report comes with the usual caveat: this was an estimation, not a full-speed practice. Even so, the list was long enough to raise a few real questions about who will actually be out there when the Eagles try to keep their perfect run against the Rams going.

The biggest name to watch is Zack Baun. He is in the concussion protocol, and the Eagles listed him as a non-participant.

If he is not cleared by the weekend, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. would be in line to start. That would be a major shift for a player who has seen only six defensive snaps so far this season while Baun and Jihaad Campbell handled the workload through the first three weeks.

Trotter Jr. has still been active in the mix, with all four of his tackles coming on special teams, but Sunday could bring his first career start.

DeVonta Smith is another situation worth tracking. He showed up on the report with a hamstring injury after a relatively quiet second half on Monday night.

Smith played all 20 offensive snaps in that second half, but he managed just one catch for four yards. If he cannot go Sunday, Dontayvion Wicks would be the WR1.

It is still early in the week, though, and the Eagles were working through a walkthrough rather than a full practice.

The receiver room is already thin enough. Marquise Brown missed Week 3 with an ankle injury and sat out Wednesday as well. Elijah Moore was on the field for only six snaps, Darius Cooper for four, and Makai Lemon played 32 of the 47 offensive snaps, not counting penalties.

At running back, Will Shipley missed the estimated practice because of a foot injury, and his status will be clearer on Thursday. If Shipley is unavailable, the Eagles would be left with just Saqion Barkley and Tank Bigsby on the active roster. The team does have Jaydon Blue and Damion Pierce on the practice squad, and both players have three elevations remaining.

Elsewhere on the report, Dallas Goedert was out with a knee issue, Fred Johnson did not practice because of a knee injury, and Jihaad Campbell was limited with a knee problem. Jordan Davis was limited with a calf injury, and Moro Ojomo was limited with calf and elbow issues.

Tank Bigsby, Jalen Carter, Darius Cooper, Jonathan Greenard and Byron Young were all listed as full participants. Bigsby is dealing with an abdomen issue, Carter with a wrist injury, Cooper with a knee injury, Greenard with a pectoral injury, and Byron Young with a toe injury.

DNP - LB Zack Baun (concussion), WR Marquise Brown (ankle), TE Dallas Goedert (knee), T Fred Johnson (knee), RB Will Shipley (foot), WR DeVonta Smith (hamstring)

LIMITED - LB Jihaad Campbell (knee), DT Jordan Davis (calf), DT Moro Ojomo (calf/elbow)

FULL - RB Tank Bigsby (abdomen), DT Jalen Carter (wrist), WR Darius Cooper (knee), OLB Jonathan Greenard (pectoral), DT Byron Young (toe)

Andrew Painter Just Changed The Phillies Biggest Playoff Fear

When the Phillies needed a steady arm in the biggest pressure spot of their Wild Card Series, Don Mattingly turned to rookie Andrew Painter in relief during extra innings of Game 2 against the Braves. Painter responded with three scoreless innings, and the Phillies rode that effort to a 4-3 win that sent them on to the next round, a result that did more than just keep their October alive.

Painters outing also offered something Philadelphia has been searching for this postseason: a little more confidence in the back end of games. Along the way, several key pitch calls went his way after challenges were overturned, adding to the sense that the night kept bending toward the Phillies, even before the final out was recorded. Braves Have One Power Threat To Watch In Winner Take All Game

The Phillies and Braves are headed into a winner-take-all Game 3 in the wild card round, and the home run swings that have already shaped the series are part of the backdrop. Both lineups have shown they can change the game in a hurry, and with a trip to the NLDS on the line, any mistake in the strike zone could carry a lot more weight than usual.

For Philadelphia, Kyle Schwarber remains the obvious middle-of-the-order threat to watch, while Atlantas Drake Baldwin has also emerged as a name to keep on the radar based on recent power production. The pitching matchup has not been announced yet, which only adds to the uncertainty, but it also means the kind of one-swing impact both clubs have already shown is still very much in play. Braves Fans Have One Big Reason To Watch Phillies In Game 3

The Phillies have turned this series into exactly the sort of October test they wanted after winning their final regular-season game just to get here. Alec Bohm and Bryce Harper have already supplied important power and timely production, and Philadelphia has found enough offense to keep pace with Atlanta as the NL Wild Card Series has tightened into a bullpen-heavy chess match.

Game 3 now shifts the spotlight to Aaron Nola, with the Phillies leaning on him to stabilize the night while the relief corps waits behind him, including Alex McFarlane and Jhoan Duran. Atlanta is expected to go with an opener and then piece together the rest with relievers who have already been used in the series, which leaves this one feeling like the kind of matchup where every inning can change the tenor of the whole night.
