Andrew Painter’s weekend ended with a standout performance, and his Monday in Seattle started with something a lot less ordinary than a bullpen session.
Before the Phillies opened a three-game set against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park, the 23-year-old rookie pitcher stopped by Pike Place Market and joined in on the fish toss. Painter and several teammates had time to take in one of Seattle’s signature sights, where workers at Pike Place Fish Market routinely sling seafood across the counter while calling orders. Painter stepped in for the throw himself, with teammates watching the scene play out.

Louis Cardinals and allowed just one earned run. He struck out eight, gave up five hits, walked none and threw 103 pitches.
His fastball hit 99.6 mph on pitch No. 100.
Painter’s recent run has been a sharp turnaround. He now has a 3.62 ERA over five starts since returning from Triple A. Philadelphia sent him down on June 18 after he put up a 7.06 ERA in 14 starts, but his latest outing helped the club extend its winning streak to eight games.
The Phillies arrived in Monday’s action at 73-58 and riding a nine-game winning streak. They were three games back of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East.
