The Flyers had to shuffle the blue line again after placing Cam York on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 8 with an upper-body injury.
Philadelphia announced the move on social media, then turned to the organization’s depth by recalling defenseman Hunter McDonald from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The club also loaned forward Jack Studnicka and defender Helge Grans to the Phantoms.
York, 25, was hurt in the Flyers’ 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 8. He has appeared in five games in 2026-27 and has been logging 21:49 of ice time per night.
This is York’s seventh season with the Flyers. The left-shot defenseman was selected No. 14 overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and has produced 23 goals and 80 assists for 103 points in 314 career regular-season games. He is in the second year of a five-year contract with a $5.15 million cap hit.
McDonald, 24, gets the call after spending the past two seasons with the Phantoms. In parts of four AHL seasons, he has recorded five goals, 25 assists, 30 points and 205 penalty minutes in 153 career regular-season games.
A sixth-round Flyers pick in 2022, the Fairport, N.Y., native played two seasons of college hockey at Northeastern University. Across 58 career NCAA games, McDonald posted two goals, 18 assists, 20 points and 88 penalty minutes.
Philadelphia enters the move at 1-6-3 with five points through 10 games in 2026-27. The Flyers picked up their first win of the season Saturday night, a 3-1 result against Ottawa that featured two-point performances from Matvei Michkov and Porter Martone, plus Trevor Zegras’ second goal of the season.

Canadiens Linked To Proven Scorer But The Price Could Sting
The Flyers have a winger in Owen Tippett who naturally draws attention when teams start hunting for proven scoring help, and Montreal is one of the clubs being mentioned as a possible fit. Shaun Starr and Marco DAmico have been discussing the Canadiens' interest, pointing to Tippetts ability to finish chances and the way his age lines up with where Montreal is trying to go.
What makes the idea more complicated is the cost. Any move for a scorer with Tippetts profile would almost certainly require real assets coming back the other way, and that is where the conversation starts to get tricky for a team trying to build thoughtfully rather than chase a quick fix. For now, it remains only a speculative link, but it is the kind of rumor that keeps a Flyers name in the center of the market. [Read more 🡒]
Flyers Win Eases One Problem While A Bigger Roster Concern Grows
The Flyers got a needed lift in their win over the Senators, and some of the credit went to the young talent that has been pushing harder for a bigger role. Matvei Michkov and Porter Martone helped drive the offense, a reminder that even amid a messy stretch, the organization has some promising options bubbling up as it tries to steady the lineup.
Still, one win does not clear the larger roster issue hanging over the club. Philadelphia is dealing with being shorthanded and may need more movement to patch the depth chart, even after already bringing Hunter McDonald up to help the blue line. With trade chatter still hovering, including the possibility of Travis Konecny being moved at some point, the Flyers remain in the familiar spot of trying to balance immediate survival with longer-term decisions. Troy Terrys Recovery Just Became A Real Ducks Story
The Flyers have been juggling injuries for weeks, and the list is still long enough to keep their lineup in flux night after night. While several teams around the league are dealing with their own absence issues, Philadelphias situation has been especially busy, with multiple regulars unavailable and the coaching staff having to plan around who can actually dress.
Among the latest names in that mix is Cam York, who has been on injured reserve since Oct. 8 with an upper-body injury. Tyson Foerster, Sean Couturier and Owen Tippett are all in the game-time-decision category, which only adds to the uncertainty as the Flyers try to patch together their lineup and keep their season moving without losing too much ground.
