Flyers Star Travis Konecny Earns Major NHL Honor After Tough Week

Despite the Flyers' struggles, Travis Konecnys standout week has earned him national recognition and reignited conversations about his impact and future.

Travis Konecny Named NHL’s Third Star of the Week After Scorching Stretch, But Frustration Mounts in Philly

Travis Konecny had himself a week. The Flyers winger was flying-five goals, two assists over four games-and even though the wins didn’t follow, the NHL took notice. On Monday, Konecny was named the league’s Third Star of the Week, a nod to a player who’s been doing everything he can to spark a struggling Philadelphia squad.

Let’s start with the numbers. Konecny lit the lamp five times and chipped in two helpers during a four-game stretch.

That included a hat trick in Columbus-his third career three-goal game-where he nearly dragged the Flyers to a win on sheer will. With the game tied 3-3 late in regulation, it was Konecny’s relentless energy that kept Philly in it until the Blue Jackets pulled away.

Then came Thursday night against Boston. Konecny opened the scoring and, in doing so, became the only Flyer to score in four straight team goals.

That’s not just a hot streak-that’s carrying the offense. In fact, he had a hand in all but one of the eight goals the Flyers scored last week.

That kind of production isn’t just impressive-it’s essential for a team clinging to playoff hopes.

But here's the thing: individual brilliance doesn’t always translate to team success. Despite Konecny’s efforts, the Flyers dropped games to both Columbus and Buffalo.

And after a 6-3 loss to the Bruins, frustration bubbled to the surface. Konecny didn’t mince words.

“I’m tired of missing the playoffs,” he said.

It’s a sentiment that hits hard in Philadelphia, where postseason hockey has become a distant memory. If the Flyers fall short again this season, it’ll mark six straight years without a playoff berth.

Their last appearance came in the bubble during the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season-no fans, no home-ice advantage. You have to go back to 2017-18 to find the last time playoff hockey was played in front of the Philly faithful.

Konecny, now the team’s leading point-getter with 52, has seen 22 playoff games in his career-16 of them in that 2019-20 run. But the numbers there have been modest: one goal, seven assists. And that hunger for more is clearly driving him.

As the Olympic break approaches, Konecny is hoping to help the Flyers string together some wins and stay in the hunt. He won’t be suiting up for Team Canada in the Winter Olympics unless a wave of injuries opens the door. He was on the radar-attended orientation camp before the season-and represented Canada in the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, though he went scoreless in two appearances.

Still, his focus remains on Philadelphia. And if this past week is any indication, he’s not done pushing. The Flyers may be on the outside looking in, but with Konecny playing at this level, they’ve still got a heartbeat.
