The Philadelphia Flyers are off to a start so rough that rival teams are already paying close attention to one of their most important young forwards.
At 0-5-3, Philadelphia sits last in the Eastern Conference with three points through eight games, a stunning fall after reaching the second round of the playoffs last season. The Flyers are even behind the Detroit Red Wings, which underscores just how badly this opening stretch has gone.
That kind of slump always brings trade chatter, and now Tyson Foerster’s name is in the mix. In a recent Sportsnet article, Frank Seravalli said teams are watching the situation closely if the Flyers can’t get things turned around.
"While vultures circle the Philadelphia Flyers amid their franchise-worst start, rival teams have been wondering: Is there any way we could get our hands on Tyson Foerster," writes Seravalli. "He seems to be on a list of untouchables. Really impressive player."
For now, the Flyers are not at the point of dismantling the roster, and head coach Rick Tocchet’s job does not appear to be in immediate danger. But once a team starts piling up losses this quickly, every player gets pulled into the conversation, especially as the trade deadline looms later in the season.
Foerster has done plenty to make himself a valuable piece. In the 2024-25 season, he finished with 25 goals, second on the Flyers only to Matvei Michkov’s 26. Last season, he scored 13 goals in 29 games while dealing with an arm injury.
This season has been a different story so far. Foerster has one goal in eight games, and his minus-8 rating reflects how tough things have been for Philadelphia overall.
Even with the slow start, the Flyers made their stance clear back in July when they signed Foerster to an eight-year, $56.8 million contract extension that runs through the 2034-35 season. That makes any trade talk a major swing, and Seravalli’s reporting suggests Foerster still sits near the untouchable end of the roster.
There is still time for the Flyers to steady themselves, stack some wins, and claw back toward the playoff race. But until that happens, the losses will keep feeding speculation about who might be available if this season keeps drifting in the wrong direction.

Flyers Young Core Is Raising An Early Concern Philadelphia Can't Ignore
Early-season growing pains have shown up quickly for Philadelphia, with young players such as Porter Martone, Denver Barkey and Oliver Bonk all trying to find their footing at the NHL level. For a group that figures to matter to the Flyers future, the first few weeks have been a reminder that development does not always move in a straight line, especially when the pace ramps up right away and the margin for error gets thin.
A shorter preseason appears to have left less time for those players to get comfortable before the games started counting, and that has become part of the conversation around the clubs uneven start. Still, the Flyers issues are not limited to the rookies and second-year types, and simply adding more exhibition games would not have guaranteed a cleaner opening stretch. [Read more 🡒]
Flyers Fans Finally Have A Date To Watch For The New Jerseys
The wait is finally over for Flyers fans who have been watching the clubs alternate-jersey rollout with curiosity. Philadelphias Hometown Remix look will get its first on-ice appearance this season, giving the team another visual identity to go along with the regular home set and adding a little extra buzz to the building when the new threads arrive.
The debut is set for the first time the Flyers host Minnesota, and the jersey will show up often enough afterward to feel like more than a one-off marketing exercise. The team has said it will use the alternates 13 times this season, with most of those games coming at Xfinity Mobile Arena, though the full design has still not been formally unveiled after a possible version surfaced back in June. Avalanche Fans Should Be Watching Mikhail Gulyayevs Start Closely
The early KHL season has offered a useful snapshot of how several NHL prospects are faring overseas, and one of the names worth keeping on the radar from a Flyers perspective is Yegor Zavragin. The young goalie has been getting regular starts, and his team situation has given him a chance to show whether last seasons promise can carry over into a bigger workload.
For Flyers fans, the appeal is obvious: Philadelphia has been tracking goaltending depth closely, and Zavragin remains one of the more interesting long-term pieces in that conversation. His recent run has been strong enough to keep him in the spotlight, even as the wider group of drafted prospects in the KHL continues to shift with injuries, ice time and roster decisions that will shape the rest of the season.
