The Flyers’ rookie group kept the good vibes rolling Sunday night at PPL Center, and this time it was Denver Barkey and Porter Martone doing most of the damage.
One night after Alex Bump stole the spotlight, Philadelphia’s other regulars from the 2026 Playoffs got their turn and delivered a 4-1 win over the New York Rangers to finish a sweep in the rookie series. Barkey and Martone each finished with two points, and the Flyers again set the tone early.
Barkey got Philadelphia on the board at 16:20 of the first period, finishing off the rush to make it 1-0. The Flyers carried that edge into the first intermission with a 10-5 advantage in shots.
The Rangers answered at 12:39 of the second when a turnover by Martone turned into a quick passing sequence and Liam Greentree buried the tying goal to even things at 1-1.
Philadelphia didn’t wait long to regain control. With seconds left in the second period, Brek Liske knocked in a centering attempt after Spencer Gill’s shot missed the net, putting the Flyers back in front 2-1 at 19:55.
That one-goal margin held through the third before the Flyers added two empty-netters to close it out. Noah Powell scored unassisted at 18:08, and Martone capped the night with an empty-net goal at 19:14.
The shot count told the same story the scoreboard did. Philadelphia led 20-10 after two periods and finished with a 26-8 edge in shots.
Martin Psohlavec stopped all seven shots he faced before the Flyers made a goalie change midway through the second period. Marek Sklenicka then made seven saves on eight shots to finish the game. For the Rangers, Danai Shaiikov turned aside 24 of 26 shots in the loss.
Rookie camp continues Monday and Tuesday for the Flyers. Main training camp opens Thursday, and the preseason begins Monday, Sept. 21 at 7 PM against the Washington Capitals in Hershey, PA.
