The Eagles head into Week 6 short-handed, with several key names unavailable and five more players carrying questionable tags on the latest injury report. Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Jalyx Hunt, and others are out, leaving Philadelphia in a spot where it may need some unexpected production to get past Carolina.
That opens the door for a handful of bold outcomes against the Panthers, and this matchup sets up as a chance for the Eagles to get creative and still make noise.
One obvious place to start is on the ground. Philadelphia just finished a game in which it managed only 22 rushing yards on 18 carries against the Jaguars, but Carolina presents a much more inviting target.
The Panthers own the NFL’s second-worst rush defense, giving up 156.5 yards per game. Dameon Pierce should be positioned to take advantage, especially with an improved offensive line in front of him, and a 100-yard rushing day for the Eagles is well within reach.
Jonathan Greenard is another player who could make a major impact. He returns with something to prove after dealing with so many injuries early in the season, and before exiting the Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams, he showed how easily he can get pressure on the quarterback. Bryce Young has already been sacked 10 times in four games, which makes this a strong spot for Greenard to finally break through with not one, but his first two sacks of the season.
Quinyon Mitchell also has a chance to build on a milestone moment. He finally picked up his first regular-season interception after already logging four postseason picks, and there’s reason to think another one could be coming against Carolina. Mitchell has been one of the few clear bright spots on this defense, and another takeaway would only add to what has been a strong season for him.
Special teams could factor in too, and Britain Covey looks like a candidate to break loose. He has been close to turning one of his punt returns into a touchdown all season, and the numbers back up the threat.
Covey ranks second in the NFL among punt returners with at least 10 returns, averaging 12.6 yards per return and posting a long of 41 yards. With the Eagles’ offense needing help, a punt-return score would be a timely jolt.
At quarterback, Tanner McKee has a chance to post numbers that would stand out. The Panthers’ defense simply has not been strong enough to make this an impossible ask, and McKee will have DeVonta Smith available to him. A line of at least 250 passing yards and two touchdowns would go a long way toward showing the Eagles can still move the ball with him leading the offense.

Jalen Hurts Backlash Just Added Another Layer To Eagles Concern
Jalen Hurts absence already landed hard in Philadelphia because of the medical seriousness behind it, and now the discussion around his injury has spilled into another layer of noise. The Eagles quarterback is sidelined after doctors found a blood clot that had moved, a development serious enough to keep him out at least against the Panthers, and the team has had to absorb the uncertainty without one of its defining players.
Former Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson only made the backdrop noisier when he questioned the injury circumstances on NFL Network, drawing a sharp public response from Robert Griffin III. Griffin pushed back on Robinsons remarks while also praising Drake Mayes recent play for New England, but for the Eagles, the larger issue remains the one they cannot shortcut: Hurts health and the wait to see how long this situation will keep him off the field. Eagles Just Sent A Complicated Signal On Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts being sidelined indefinitely has put the Eagles in an awkward spot, even as the team tries to keep its quarterback available for as long as possible. The injury, a superficial blood clot in his calf, is serious enough to pause his on-field work, but Philadelphia is not taking the next step that would lock him into a longer absence.
What makes the situation more complicated is the timing. The issue was already known by Week 4, and while medical experts believe Hurts could miss more than a month, the Eagles are leaving the door open rather than shutting it completely. For a team trying to navigate the next stretch without its starter, that means the focus shifts from a clean timeline to an uncertain wait that could stretch toward late October or early November. Jalen Hurts Drew Serious Backlash Over How His Health Was Discussed
Jalen Hurts health became the center of an ugly and unnecessary debate this week after an NFL Network analyst floated the idea that the Eagles quarterback could be using a blood clot to dodge blame for the teams offensive struggles. Michael Robinson later acknowledged he is not a medical expert, but his remarks still minimized the seriousness of a condition that has kept Hurts status in the spotlight and added another layer of noise around a season already under a microscope.
The reaction was swift, with former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III publicly pushing back and stressing that this is not the kind of issue that should be handled casually. For Philadelphia, the episode was another reminder of how quickly concerns about Hurts can spill beyond the field, especially when the conversation turns from football to health and the line between criticism and irresponsibility starts to blur.
