Saquon Barkleys Latest Injury Leaves Eagles Facing A Bigger Concern

Eagles' rushing attack faces uncertainty as star running back Saquon Barkley exits mid-game with a hamstring injury.

Saquon Barkley’s afternoon against the Rams ended early Sunday, and the Eagles were left to sort out another hit to their ground game.

Philadelphia ruled its star running back out late in the second quarter after he suffered a hamstring injury on the team’s second offensive drive. The injury happened after a six-yard run toward the sideline, when Barkley paused, dropped to the turf, and then limped to the sideline with medical trainers helping him off.

From there, the Eagles sent him to the blue medical tent for a few minutes before he walked into the locker room for further evaluation.

Tank Bigsby took over as the starting back, with Will Shipley also set to share snaps behind him.

Barkley’s exit came on the heels of a rough stretch for his availability. He missed most of Philadelphia’s Week 2 win over the Tennessee Titans after taking a stinger on the opening play, then suited up in the Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night with a neck pad.

Through the first four weeks of the season, Barkley has rushed for 174 yards. Against the Rams, he finished with two carries for eight yards before leaving.

The timing isn’t ideal for an Eagles rushing attack that has already had trouble finding its footing. Without Barkley, Philadelphia could have an even tougher time trying to get its run game going against Los Angeles.

“Got to do a better job on first-down runs,” Barkley said last Monday about the run-game issues. “Got to do a better job of staying above the sticks, not getting behind the sticks. Kind of the same thing that’s been going on for a little bit.

“We just did a really good job in the first half versus the second half, but that was really it. ... Got to stay out of second-and-8, penalties, all the little things.

We got to fix it.We know the problem. We got to get better at it.

Got a short week, so got to move on. Move on quick.”

Lane Johnson Update Leaves Eagles Fans With A Bigger Concern

Lane Johnson will sit out the upcoming game against the Los Angeles Rams because of a personal matter, leaving the Eagles without one of their most important and most reliable pieces on the offensive line. For a team that leans so heavily on stability up front, any absence from Johnson carries weight, especially given how central he has been to Philadelphias run in recent seasons.

Johnsons status also comes with a larger long-term backdrop after he announced plans to retire following the 2026 NFL season. He already dealt with a Lisfranc injury that cost him part of last season, so even a short-term update like this tends to invite bigger questions about what comes next for an aging cornerstone in the middle of another demanding year. Eagles Just Sent A Troubling Message About Their Backup Quarterback Spot

The Eagles are making a change behind Jalen Hurts, with Tanner McKee set to replace Andy Dalton as the backup quarterback for the game against the Los Angeles Rams, according to NFL Networks Mike Garafolo. The move comes after Dalton threw an interception in a recent game and after coaches offered mixed signals about how they feel about the depth of the quarterback room.

McKee, a sixth-round pick in 2023, has already shown enough in limited action to stay in the conversation. He has started two career games and owns a 99.5 passer rating, which gives Philadelphia a different look at a spot that suddenly feels worth watching a lot more closely. [Read more 🡒]

Eagles May Need Saquon To Save Them In Shorthanded Rams Test

The Eagles head into Week 4 with a long injury list and little margin for error, which puts a brighter spotlight on a familiar answer. With DeVonta Smith, Zack Baun and Dallas Goedert among the key names dealing with issues, Philadelphias margin on both sides of the ball gets thinner as the Rams come to town. That has a way of pushing the game plan toward Saquon Barkley, who may need to carry more of the load on the ground while the rest of the offense tries to keep pace.

Jeremiah Trotter Jr. is in line to start at linebacker for Baun, and that adds another layer to what already looks like a difficult test for Vic Fangios defense. The Eagles will need a cleaner pass rush to bother Matthew Stafford and a sharper answer to a Rams passing attack that can stress a secondary if it is left on its heels. Philadelphia can still make this a manageable game, but with so many key pieces sidelined, it may have to do it the hard way. [Read more 🡒]
