Eagles' Offense Set for a Refresh with New Coordinator Sean Mannion
For the third consecutive year, the Philadelphia Eagles are shaking things up with a new offensive coordinator. This time, it's Sean Mannion, stepping in to replace Kevin Patullo. Mannion, formerly the quarterbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers, is tasked with revitalizing an offense that didn't quite hit its stride last season.
Star running back Saquon Barkley, who's no stranger to adapting to new systems, shared his enthusiasm for the change during a recent NFL Network appearance. "I'm super excited about it," Barkley said.
"Heading into Year 9, it's refreshing to encounter a system like this. It’s a chance to learn something new."
Barkley’s optimism is understandable. In 2024, he led the league with 2,283 total yards from scrimmage and snagged the NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award.
However, last season saw a dip, with Barkley finishing 15th in the league with 1,413 total yards. The Eagles, as a whole, struggled offensively, ranking 24th in the NFL with an average of 311.2 yards per game.
Reflecting on the past season, Barkley noted, "We just weren't consistent enough throughout games." The Eagles, despite being reigning Super Bowl champions, ended their 2025 campaign with an 11-6 record and a disappointing 23-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild-card round.
Barkley acknowledged the challenges of maintaining championship form, saying, "Winning the Super Bowl in back-to-back seasons is really hard. Every team is gearing up to compete, and we’ve got to do the same."
As the Eagles prepare for the upcoming season, one lingering question is the future of wide receiver A.J. Brown, who has been at the center of trade rumors. Whether Brown stays or goes, Mannion will be looking to make his mark and inject new life into the Eagles' offense.
