The Philadelphia Eagles are heading into the 2026 offseason with a major decision seemingly already made: it looks like A.J. Brown’s time in midnight green may be coming to an end.
After a season that didn’t quite meet the high standard he set in 2022 and 2023, Brown finished with 78 catches for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns-solid numbers for most, but not quite the dominant force Eagles fans have come to expect. And in the team’s Wild Card loss to the 49ers, Brown was a non-factor, managing just three catches for 25 yards as Philadelphia’s offense sputtered.
According to league chatter, the relationship between Brown and the organization-specifically quarterback Jalen Hurts-has cooled considerably. While nothing is official yet, reports suggest a split is not only possible but increasingly likely. Whether it’s the Eagles looking to move on or Brown wanting a fresh start elsewhere, the writing appears to be on the wall.
This potential breakup comes at a time of broader transition for the Eagles. Head coach Nick Sirianni has already begun reshaping his staff, parting ways with offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo following the playoff exit.
Longtime offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, a fixture in the building and a key architect of the team’s trench dominance, has also stepped down. These are not small moves-they signal a team reassessing its identity after a disappointing end to a once-promising season.
If Brown is indeed on the trade block, there’s no shortage of teams that would be interested. Despite a dip in production, he remains one of the league’s most physically gifted receivers-a matchup nightmare when used effectively. In the right system, particularly one that leans heavily on the pass, Brown could easily reassert himself as a top-tier wideout.
The Eagles, meanwhile, would be left to retool an offense that’s been built around the Hurts-Brown connection. If that partnership is truly fractured beyond repair, it’s better to move decisively than to let it fester.
But make no mistake-losing a player of Brown’s caliber changes the equation. Philly would need to find new answers fast, whether through the draft, free agency, or another blockbuster trade.
There’s still time for things to shift-offseasons are long, and relationships in the NFL can be as volatile as they are repairable. But as it stands, the signs point to a major shakeup in Philadelphia.
And if A.J. Brown is indeed on his way out, it’ll mark the end of an era that, while brief, helped define one of the most dynamic stretches in recent Eagles history.
