Nick Foles Just Reopened A Tough Jalen Hurts Debate

Deck: Former Eagles QB, Nick Foles, critiques Jalen Hurts' performance for missing key opportunities in their recent loss, highlighting an area for urgent improvement.

Nick Foles didn’t sound like he was handing out a gentle critique of Jalen Hurts on Sunday. He sounded like a former Eagles quarterback watching a familiar problem in real time and calling it exactly what he thought it was.

In a video clip posted on X by NBC Sports via Kyouma, Foles pointed to Hurts’ timing and decision-making in Philadelphia’s 24-20 Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, saying the quarterback was holding the ball too long and missing chances to get rid of it on time.

“The key is this,” Foles said. “Jalen is not on time, nor is he ready to throw the ball right here.

He's sitting there... he could have thrown to anyone on the front side of this, any player. ... That's where on time and rhythm (come into play).

We watch Case Keenum against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football do this every single play.”

Foles kept pressing the point, framing it as something the Eagles can’t afford to live with if they want the offense to keep moving.

“On time, in rhythm. The pocket is good enough to get that play off right then and there. ...

No excuses,” Foles said. “They have to get better.

They have a quarterback that's a Super Bowl champ. ... This is a deficiency in his game that once he gets better, it's going to be unstoppable, but he's got to get better.”

Hurts’ numbers backed up the rough outing. He finished 12 of 27 for 93 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. ESPN gave him a 37.5 QBR, and the 93 passing yards were his fewest in a game since Week 15 of 2024.

Hurts was later asked more directly about handling the ups and downs, and he pushed the conversation toward the work rather than the emotion.

“I think it's less about being even-keeled and more about doubling down on the work and controlling the things that you can,” Hurts said. “This is a team that's building and finding its way, and it's obviously a work in progress.”

The Eagles are now 2-2 and will try to stop a third straight loss when they face the Jacksonville Jaguars in London in Week 5. With the game in the 9:30 am EST window, Hurts will once again be the center of attention.

Eagles Suddenly Have A London Availability Problem Fans Need To Watch

The Eagles are heading into their London trip for Week 5 with more uncertainty than anyone in Philadelphia would like this early in the season. Multiple key starters are already on injured reserve, and several more have carried questionable tags as the team gets ready for Jacksonville, leaving the roster picture in flux at a point where the margin for error is already thin.

Landon Dickerson, Zack Baun and DeVonta Smith are among the names the team is monitoring most closely, and their availability could shape how the Eagles handle a game that comes with the added challenge of overseas travel. For a team trying to settle in and keep its season moving forward, the health report may end up mattering as much as the matchup itself. [Read more 🡒]

Rex Ryan Just Poured Fuel On A Brutal Eagles Debate

Rex Ryan added another layer to the conversation around Philadelphias offense after the loss to the Rams, going straight at the Eagles offensive line and calling it abysmal. The criticism landed because it came after a night when the group struggled to protect the quarterback, with pressure showing up repeatedly and injuries thinning out a unit that already had little margin for error without Lane Johnson on the field.

Jordan Mailata, though, isnt sounding the alarm in the same way. The veteran tackle said he believes the group can get better as the season goes on, which is the part of this debate that matters most for the Eagles: whether the lines rough start is just early-season turbulence or the first sign of a longer problem up front. Eagles Suddenly Have A Bigger Problem Than This Loss

The Eagles left Los Angeles with another tight loss, a 24-20 defeat to the Rams that dropped them to 2-2 and extended a skid that has started to chip away at the early-season optimism. Even on a night when Philadelphia was dealing with a depleted roster and had just 47 players active, there were still moments that suggested the offense could find enough answers to stay in games, including points off two interceptions.

But the larger concern is the growing list of missing or limited playmakers, with Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith among the names that have complicated the margin for error. Philadelphia also continued to sputter on third down and in total yardage, the kind of issues that make a two-game slide feel less like bad luck and more like a team searching for stability before the season gets any less forgiving.
