Nick Foles Just Added Another Layer To His Eagles Legend

Discover the surprising reason why Nick Foles turned down a lucrative deal just before leading the Eagles to Super Bowl glory.

Nick Foles’ Super Bowl LII story has always been about the unlikely run, the pressure of stepping in for Carson Wentz, and the way he outplayed the moment when the Eagles needed it most. But there was another wrinkle hanging over him before Philadelphia faced the Patriots in Minneapolis: a $150,000 offer from Disney that Foles refused to touch.

That detail surfaced this week through Peter King, who described the deal on the Real Deal with Tony Reali podcast. King said the arrangement was simple on paper - a guaranteed payday before the game, with the promise of even more if Foles and the Eagles won. But Foles wanted no part of it.

“This is just, this is a guaranteed $150,000, so even if you lose, you’re getting a check for this,” King said.

King said Foles’ response was immediate and final. “‘And if you win, it’s gonna be a lot more, but here’s the minimum that we’re gonna pay you.’

And Foles is the first guy in the history of the Super Bowl who said, ‘No. I’m not signing it.’”

The pushback apparently came even after his agent tried to get him to take the money. “‘And his agent said, “This is 150,000 free dollars.

Just sign this.’ He goes, ‘No.

I’m not signing anything. It could enter my mind that, Hey, I’ve got this money on the line here.

I mean they’re paying me $150,000 and I’m in the Super Bowl and all this.’ And he said, ‘Anything that was one tenth of 1% to take away my attention or my focus on this game, I’m not going to do it.

If I win the game, fine. I’ll do a hundred things because then I can cash in.

But I will not sign anything to make any money before the game.'””

Foles’ logic fit the way he handled that entire postseason. He had been thrust into the starting job only weeks earlier after Wentz tore his ACL, and his late-season play had been shaky enough that plenty of people didn’t expect much from Philadelphia. Then came the playoff surge, followed by the title game itself.

On Super Bowl Sunday, Foles delivered. He completed 28 of 43 passes for 373 yards and threw three touchdown passes, including the now-famous 1-yard score on the “Philly Special” play.

He also walked away with Super Bowl MVP honors after the Eagles beat the New England Patriots 41-33 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

In the end, the choice to turn down that pregame money didn’t hurt him one bit.

Eagles Offensive Struggles Keep Pointing Back To One Offseason Miss

The Eagles spent part of their offseason searching for answers on offense, and one of the more interesting names in that process was Declan Doyle. Philadelphia interviewed multiple candidates for its offensive coordinator opening, and Doyle was among them before moving on to Baltimore, where his offense has already flashed in several statistical categories. With the Eagles still trying to find their footing through five games, the contrast only makes that missed opportunity look more significant.

Sean Mannion is the voice currently helping steer the Eagles offense, and the difference in experience and control is part of what makes the situation so noticeable. Philadelphias hiring choices are now being viewed through the lens of how the offense has performed, and Doyles success elsewhere has only sharpened the question of what might have been if the Eagles had landed him instead. Eagles Pass Rush Faces An Awkward Test Against The Star They Lost

The Eagles pass rush is about to get a familiar stress test, and it comes in the form of Jaelan Phillips, the edge rusher they once had in-house before he headed to Carolina. Philadelphia did not match the Panthers offer, and the move sent Phillips on a new path while the Eagles tried to patch the edge with Jonathan Greenard and a youth movement around the position.

The timing makes the matchup feel especially awkward for a defense that has not found the kind of steady pressure it expected. Injuries and limited production have chipped away at the rush plan, leaving the Eagles to watch a former piece of their own blueprint return to Philadelphia in a Panthers uniform with plenty of attention waiting on his every snap. Nick Foles Made A Revealing Super Bowl Choice Eagles Fans Never Knew

In the buildup to Super Bowl LII, Nick Foles was already carrying the weight of an entire citys hopes, and he was handling even the off-field noise with the same calm that defined his postseason run. One of the more revealing details from that week is just how carefully he protected his focus, turning down a guaranteed endorsement opportunity as he prepared to lead the Eagles into the biggest game of his life.

It fit the larger picture of a quarterback who never seemed rattled by the moment, and it helps explain why that night ended with Philadelphia celebrating its first Super Bowl title. Foles delivered one of the most memorable performances in franchise history, including the iconic Philly Special, and left no doubt who the games MVP would be. [Read more 🡒]
