LSUs Charlie Weis Jr Stuns Eagles With Bold Coaching Decision

Charlie Weis Jr. is staying in the college ranks, opting to reunite with Lane Kiffin at LSU rather than pursue a high-profile NFL opportunity with the Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles continue their search for a new offensive coordinator, and one name just came off the board.

Charlie Weis Jr., who had been in the mix for the Eagles’ OC vacancy, has informed the team he’ll be heading to LSU instead, joining Lane Kiffin’s staff in Baton Rouge. Weis and Kiffin have a long-standing working relationship, and it looks like that bond will continue in the SEC rather than taking a leap to the NFL.

With Weis officially out, here’s where the Eagles’ OC search stands:

  • Matt Nagy (Former Chiefs OC) - Interviewed
  • Zac Robinson (Falcons OC, previously with Rams) - Currently with Tampa Bay
  • **Charlie Weis Jr. ** (LSU OC) - Withdrawn
  • Mike Kafka (Giants OC) - Interviewed
  • Jim Bob Cooter (Colts OC) - Requested
  • Bobby Slowik (Dolphins Pass Game Coordinator) - Still with Miami
  • Josh Grizzard (Former Buccaneers OC) - Interviewed
  • Brian Daboll (Former Giants HC) - Interviewed
  • Kliff Kingsbury (Former Commanders OC) - In the mix
  • Declan Doyle (Bears OC) - Requested
  • Frank Smith (Former Dolphins OC) - Interviewed
  • Jerrod Johnson (Texans QB Coach) - Interview Scheduled

It’s a wide-ranging list, mixing experienced play-callers with some of the league’s rising offensive minds. From former head coaches like Daboll and Kingsbury to up-and-comers like Johnson and Doyle, the Eagles are clearly casting a wide net.

As for Weis Jr., his coaching journey has been a steady climb through the college ranks. At just 32 years old, he already boasts a résumé that includes stops at Florida, Kansas, Alabama, and multiple stints with Lane Kiffin. Their partnership began at FAU, continued through Ole Miss, and now heads to LSU, where Kiffin is building out his new staff for the 2026 season.

Weis got his start in 2011 as a quality control coach at Florida, then worked as a team manager at Kansas from 2012 to 2014. His first real break came at Alabama under Nick Saban, where he served as an offensive assistant in 2015 and 2016. That experience helped launch him into OC roles at FAU and South Florida, before reuniting with Kiffin at Ole Miss from 2022 through 2025.

Now, he’ll continue that trajectory in Baton Rouge, while the Eagles turn their attention elsewhere.

Philadelphia’s next offensive coordinator will be tasked with revitalizing an offense that, despite its talent, lacked consistency in key moments last season. With a franchise quarterback in place and a roster built to contend, the hire needs to be more than just a good fit - it needs to be the right one.

The search continues.
