Jalen Hurts was back around the Eagles on Wednesday, and even without saying a word to the team, his presence carried some weight.
According to ESPN’s Tim McManus, Hurts showed up at the team’s practice facility for the first time since being placed on injured reserve because of blood clots in his lungs. McManus reported that some players saw him for the first time since the injury designation, and that he sat in on the team meeting along with additional meetings. He did not speak to the group, but one source said his presence gave some players a morale boost.
Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season after the blood clots were first found in his calf during the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The issue later moved to his lungs, which led to the Eagles putting him on IR.
Head coach Nick Sirianni said he has stayed in touch with his quarterback.
“I've talked to him and am in constant communication with him and know he's resting and recovering,” Sirianni said. “I miss him like crazy.
But nothing new on that front. I know he's resting and recovering, and we're all still praying for him and hoping for a speedy recovery.”
On the field, Philadelphia has been scrambling to keep things moving without its franchise quarterback. Tanner McKee had been starting, but he has thrown only two touchdowns and two interceptions, and the Eagles have not won a game with him under center. Now the team is turning to Joe Milton III to start against the New York Giants, with the hope that he can finally get them into the win column.
Hurts’ return to the facility comes during a season in which the Eagles have been hit hard by injuries across the roster. Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith have both missed time at different points this year.

Former Eagles Are Thriving Elsewhere As Philadelphia's Season Unravels
As Philadelphias season slips further off the rails at 2-6 and the playoff picture starts to close in, a few familiar faces are making their presence felt far from South Philly. Jahan Dotson turned in one of the more eye-catching performances of the week for Tampa Bay, flashing the kind of big-play ability the Eagles once hoped to tap into, while Nakobe Dean and Alex Singleton each delivered busy defensive days in wins for their new clubs.
It has become a frustrating subplot for Eagles fans watching the current roster search for answers: the ex-Eagles are finding traction elsewhere. Even Cam Jurgens, whose day went the other direction in a Ravens loss, is part of the broader picture of a roster churn that keeps circling back on Philadelphia, while Jaelan Phillips hamstring issue in Carolina adds another layer to a list of former Eagles whose seasons are taking very different turns. Jalen Hurts Just Gave Eagles Fans A Reason To Hope
Jalen Hurts has been out of action after being placed on injured reserve because of blood clots in his lungs, but his presence around the Eagles this week offered a welcome lift. The quarterback was back at the team facility and around the building, a sight that carried real weight for a locker room trying to keep moving forward without its leader on the field.
Nick Sirianni said he has stayed in communication with Hurts, though he did not have any fresh medical update to share. Even without a timetable, the fact that Hurts was around the team was seen as a positive sign for the organization and its fans, who have been waiting for any encouraging development in a situation that remains bigger than football. Eagles Suddenly Have A Bigger Week 9 Concern Than Fans Expected
The Eagles Week 9 prep took another hit Thursday when their second injury report of the week showed seven players sidelined from practice and several more working in a limited capacity ahead of Sundays matchup with the Giants. The list only reinforced how thin things have gotten around the roster, with DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks and Michael Carter II all expected to miss the game, while Tanner McKee also remained limited as Philadelphia tries to get through the week intact.
Saquon Barkleys status is the one that will draw the most attention from an Eagles fan base already watching the offense closely, especially after he was upgraded to limited after not practicing Wednesday. The Giants have their own concerns, with Malik Nabers missing practice but still expected to play and Cam Skattebo trending toward sitting out, but Philadelphias bigger issue is whether it can keep enough key pieces available to avoid turning a divisional game into a depth test.
