Jalen Hurts Just Reignited A Huge Eagles Uniform Debate

Philadelphia Eagles fans might see a shift in their team's alternate uniforms as the wildly popular Kelly Green throwbacks could edge out the black alternates in future lineups.

The Eagles’ uniform lineup may be headed for a real shakeup, and the black alternate could be the piece that gets pushed aside.

Philadelphia has kept its look remarkably steady since midnight green became the primary color in 1996. The changes over the years have mostly been small tweaks to the road jerseys, the number outline and the wordmark. The biggest additions came later: the black jersey arrived in 2003, black pants followed in 2014, an alternate black helmet showed up in 2022, and then the Kelly Green throwbacks returned in 2023 along with an alternate Kelly Green helmet.

Since then, the Kelly Green set has become the alternate fans gravitate toward. The black jersey, by comparison, has been used just once a year.

Under the current NFL rules, teams can wear an alternate uniform up to four times per season, and the Eagles have split those appearances by going with Kelly Green three times and black once. The black helmet has been used more than once with the white road jerseys, and the black pants have also stayed in the mix.

Now there’s a possibility that another throwback enters the picture. Jalen Hurts has already been a driving force behind the Kelly Green comeback, and he appears interested in bringing back another look from that same era: the white Kelly Green uniforms worn by the Eagles from 1985 through 1995.

Those white Kelly Green jerseys were a standard part of that period, and the Eagles already have the helmet and pants that would go with them. The catch is simple: the NFL only allows four uniforms in a set, so adding a white Kelly Green jersey would mean something else has to come out.

The home and road jerseys have gone untouched for 30 years and don’t seem likely to be replaced anytime soon. The home Kelly Green uniform is also too popular to go anywhere, which makes the black alternate the most obvious candidate to be shelved if the Eagles decide to go with two throwback looks.

That kind of setup is already in place elsewhere around the league. The San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the clearest examples, with the Buccaneers moving away from the Pewter uniforms in favor of a road creamsicle throwback.

If Philadelphia does add a road Kelly Green throwback, it won’t happen this year. The Eagles have already unveiled their home, road and alternate jerseys with the updated wordmark, so those three are locked into the 2026 rotation. The Kelly Green throwbacks are back as well, and are likely to be worn in three games.

The earliest a road throwback could arrive would be 2027. At that point, the Eagles could use both the home and road throwbacks up to four times in a season, perhaps splitting those appearances two and two.

There’s also another layer coming in 2027: the “Rivalries” uniform could be added to the mix. That could mean an updated black alternate, or it could open the door to a new color or helmet. None of that will be revealed until 2027, but the process is already underway.

So while this season may still feature the current black uniforms, their run could be nearing an end. At the very least, change is coming soon to the Eagles’ uniform set.

Rosemans 2023 Eagles Draft Class Just Created A Bigger Problem

The Eagles 2023 draft class keeps looking better the more time passes, and that success is part of what makes the next phase so interesting. Jalen Carter has already stacked up the kind of accolades that normally belong to much older players, Nolan Smith has become a real piece of the defense, and even the deeper names from that class have helped shape the roster in different ways. For a front office that has made its reputation on staying ahead of the market, landing impact talent is only the first part of the job.

Philadelphia also has to sort out what comes after the development stage, because not every player in that group fits neatly into the future the same way. Some are still proving they belong, others have carved out roles that matter on special teams or behind the scenes, and a few have already shown enough progress to force bigger decisions than a typical draft class usually creates. The Eagles got value from that group, but now the challenge is figuring out how much of it can be kept together as the roster keeps evolving. [Read more 🡒]

Eagles Just Got A Clear Answer On Tank Bigsbys Value

The Eagles did not have to wait long to learn what Tank Bigsby could do once they brought him in after Week 1, and the answer has been pretty useful. Acquired for a pair of 2026 draft picks, Bigsby settled into a change-of-pace role and handled 16 games without forcing the offense to alter its identity, giving Philadelphia a runner who could spell Miles Sanders and keep the backfield moving.

Bigsby finished with 58 carries for 344 yards and two touchdowns, plus work on kick returns, and his most productive stretch came late enough to make the fit look real rather than temporary. The next question is less about whether he belongs and more about how much the Eagles can keep him in that same lane, with a new season approaching and a contract situation that could eventually push his value beyond being the No. 2 option.
