As the Eagles’ season opener gets closer, Jalen Hurts has been making the interview rounds, and a recent conversation with Jason Dumas for 6abc Philadelphia gave a little more of a look at how he sees the city around him.
Hurts did not sound like a player going through the motions when the topic turned to Philadelphia. He said the city is something hard to put into words, calling it a place with real value in sports and sports culture.
“It’s a special place. I don’t think my words could - I don’t think I could even find the words to explain right now what the city is, and how valuable it is for sports, and sports culture.
It has a special edge, and as a player, I just try to carry my edge, carry my competitiveness, carry my love and drive with me wherever I am. So, it’s been great to be able to grow and learn the things that I have in this city, and to build and experience special moments like we have.
And so, its just a start of a new journey now, and I’m excited for that.”
Hurts also spoke about the responsibility that comes with being in his position. He said he wants to honor the platform football has given him and that he is deliberate with how he spends his time, making sure to be present for the communities that look up to him.
He offered a small glimpse into what game day looks like, too. The routine is not overly rigid, but music is part of it.
Hurts said he does not have one go-to song before heading to the stadium and prefers to let the music come to him. Even so, he said one of the best parts of game day is getting to hear so much good music before kickoff.
