Robert Griffin III came out swinging for Jalen Hurts after Michael Robinson raised questions about the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback’s injury status, and Griffin didn’t leave much room for interpretation.
Hurts is set to miss at least Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers after doctors found a blood clot that could be life-threatening. The issue was first discovered Saturday before the Eagles faced the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Hurts had initially been cleared to play, but a follow-up ultrasound on Wednesday night showed the clot had moved, and Philadelphia ruled him out for Sunday’s game.
That sequence was enough for Robinson, a Super Bowl champion and former Pro Bowler, to float a theory during Thursday’s edition of NFL Network’s "NFL Gameday Kickoff."
“I’m not saying I know nothing, guys," Robinson said. "But if I’m just playing devil’s advocate here, and I’m thinking that way, if I’m Jalen Hurts, or anybody in Jalen Hurts’ camp, I’m saying, ‘Well, if everybody’s hurt, I’m hurt, too.’”
Griffin pushed back hard, sharing the clip on X and blasting the suggestion that Hurts was using the injury to dodge accountability for the Eagles’ recent skid.
“THIS IS RIDICULOUS. The negative narratives around Jalen Hurts have to stop,” Griffin wrote.
“Michael Robinson is accusing Jalen Hurts of saying, ‘Well, if everybody’s hurt, I’m hurt, too.’ And that Jalen Hurts is ‘pulling himself out so that this doesn’t look like it’s on me,’ when Jalen Hurts has a BLOOD CLOT THAT SHOWED MOVEMENT AND COULD BE LIFE THREATENING.
That’s OUTRAGEOUS @RealMikeRob WHAT ARE WE DOING MAN? I would never expect this from a former player.
I wouldn’t expect this from ANYBODY. Jalen Hurts can’t even have a serious medical condition in peace."
The Eagles have dropped three straight, with injuries piling up around them as the losses mounted. Hurts’ situation, though, was clearly separate from the team’s on-field issues.
Griffin also had plenty to say about another quarterback drawing criticism. After the New England Patriots beat the Las Vegas Raiders 45-17, he turned his attention to Drake Maye and the people who had been second-guessing him.
Maye put together one of his strongest outings of the year, throwing for 374 yards and four touchdowns as New England added a second straight win. That surge came after the Patriots knocked off the previously undefeated Buffalo Bills.
“Drake Maye is back, and the NFL should be terrified,” RGIII said in a video posted on X, Friday. “I need everybody who was ready to give up on Drake Maye to step forward, please, because I got a question for you. Where are y’all at now?”

Eagles Just Sent A Complicated Signal On Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts being sidelined indefinitely has put the Eagles in an awkward spot, even as the team tries to keep its quarterback available for as long as possible. The injury, a superficial blood clot in his calf, is serious enough to pause his on-field work, but Philadelphia is not taking the next step that would lock him into a longer absence.
What makes the situation more complicated is the timing. The issue was already known by Week 4, and while medical experts believe Hurts could miss more than a month, the Eagles are leaving the door open rather than shutting it completely. For a team trying to navigate the next stretch without its starter, that means the focus shifts from a clean timeline to an uncertain wait that could stretch toward late October or early November. Jalen Hurts Drew Serious Backlash Over How His Health Was Discussed
Jalen Hurts health became the center of an ugly and unnecessary debate this week after an NFL Network analyst floated the idea that the Eagles quarterback could be using a blood clot to dodge blame for the teams offensive struggles. Michael Robinson later acknowledged he is not a medical expert, but his remarks still minimized the seriousness of a condition that has kept Hurts status in the spotlight and added another layer of noise around a season already under a microscope.
The reaction was swift, with former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III publicly pushing back and stressing that this is not the kind of issue that should be handled casually. For Philadelphia, the episode was another reminder of how quickly concerns about Hurts can spill beyond the field, especially when the conversation turns from football to health and the line between criticism and irresponsibility starts to blur. Eagles Defense Has A Vic Fangio Problem Fans Will Notice
The Eagles defense has been living on the wrong side of long afternoons in 2026, and the problem keeps showing up in the same frustrating way. ESPN Research says Philadelphia has been dealing with a league-leading number of extended possessions, the kind that grind down a defense and make it hard to ever find a rhythm. It has been one of the clearest reasons the unit has looked out of sync under Vic Fangio.
The deeper issue is that opponents are not just staying on the field, they are consistently finding positive yardage and avoiding the kind of dead plays that flip a drive. Philadelphia has not been creating enough zero or negative-yardage snaps to force offenses behind schedule, which leaves the Eagles chasing down long series instead of dictating terms. Until that changes, every drive feels a little too manageable for the other side. [Read more 🡒]
