Howie Roseman Reveals Eagles Draft Plan Shift

Eagles GM Howie Roseman boldly outlines plans to strengthen the tight end position, setting sights on the 2026 draft for impactful new talent.

The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for the 2026 NFL Draft with a clear focus on bolstering their tight end position. Despite an active free agency period, the Eagles are looking to secure their long-term future with strategic draft picks.

Dallas Goedert, fresh off a stellar season, headlines the tight end group. He’s joined by Grant Calcaterra, Johnny Mundt, and Stone Smartt.

However, all are on one-year deals, signaling that GM Howie Roseman is planning for the future. At the NFL owners meetings, Roseman emphasized the importance of adding depth to the position.

“We’ll go into the draft, and there will be more tight ends in camp than there are on the roster right now,” he stated.

The Eagles hold the No. 23 pick in the first round, with Oregon's Kenyon Sadiq as a potential target if he’s available. They also have the No. 54 pick in the second round and two third-round selections (Nos. 68 and 98), where Vanderbilt’s Eli Stowers and Ohio State’s Max Klare might fit well. Roseman’s five Day 3 picks provide further opportunities to explore talents like NC State’s Justin Joly and Stanford’s Sam Roush.

Roseman’s strategy doesn’t stop at the draft. He’s thrilled to have retained Goedert, who re-signed for a ninth season in Philadelphia on a one-year, $7 million deal.

Despite a career-high 11 touchdowns in 2025, Goedert chose to stay in Philly, a testament to his connection with the team and city. “He loves Philadelphia,” Roseman shared.

“Even with the success he had, he felt like he had unfinished business.”

Alongside Goedert, the Eagles added Mundt, Calcaterra, and Smartt, and they already have Cam Latu, E.J. Jenkins, and Jaheim Bell in the mix. That’s seven tight ends, but Roseman’s commitment to strengthening the position suggests more additions are on the horizon by the end of the draft.

With Jalen Hurts at quarterback, the Eagles are ensuring he has a versatile and robust group of tight ends to work with, aiming for both immediate impact and future success.
