Former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is set to plead guilty to criminal charges, according to public court records.
The exact charges he will plead guilty to have not been made public. Sanchez had been facing a felony count of battery resulting in serious bodily injury along with three misdemeanor charges.
The case traces back to an altercation in October 2025 while Sanchez was in Indianapolis on assignment as a color commentator for FOX. He was stabbed in the incident and suffered serious injuries, but police say he was the one who started it.
According to the account given to law enforcement, 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole said he was delivering food when Sanchez told him he needed to move his vehicle. Tole said Sanchez then threatened and attacked him. He also said he tried to use pepper spray on the quarterback, but it did not work, and that he then stabbed Sanchez while defending himself.
After the incident, FOX let Sanchez go.
A trial had been scheduled for Sept. 8, but that will now be canceled because of the guilty plea. A sentencing hearing has been requested for November.
Sanchez, 39, played four seasons with the Jets from 2009 to 2012. He finished with a 33-29 record as the team’s starter, completing 55.1% of his passes for 12,092 yards, 68 touchdowns and 69 interceptions.
He is best remembered for helping the Jets reach back-to-back AFC championship games in 2009 and 2010. The franchise has not been back to the playoffs since.
