The Eagles’ Week 1 inactive list is in, and the toughest call among the group came at receiver, where the team chose Cooper over Moore for the No. 5 spot.
Philadelphia will have 46 players active on game day from its 53-man roster, which leaves six inactives, with Eli Stowers already on injured reserve. The Eagles also settled their quarterback situation by making McKee the emergency third quarterback and a game-day inactive, which means Andy Dalton is the No. 2 QB behind Jalen Hurts.
Dalton won the backup job, so if Hurts has to miss a play, Dalton is the one who will step in. That decision is now finally settled.
On the edge, the Eagles will be without Greenard, who returned to practice this week after missing all of training camp with a pectoral injury. He was limited throughout the week, but the team played it safe and ruled him out for Week 1.
Philadelphia is expected to use Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith on the edge, with Hunt on the right side and Smith on the left. A.J.
Epenesa and Arnold Ebiketie are also part of the pass rush, as the Eagles plan to roll with four pass rushers this week.
Stowers, meanwhile, was initially listed as questionable with a hamstring injury before being moved to injured reserve Saturday with hamstring and quad issues and then downgraded to out. That leaves the Eagles with 52 players on the active roster heading into Sunday.
He likely would have been a healthy scratch anyway, since he wasn’t ready to contribute at tight end, and Philadelphia will instead go with Dallas Goedert, Johnny Mundt, and E.J. Jenkins at the position.
The Eagles are also carrying four quarterbacks on the active roster, though that does not mean all four will be active on game day. Hurts is the starter, Dalton is the backup, and McKee is the third quarterback. Payton could eventually be used as an H-back or in a Tayson Hill-type role, but that may come later in the season.
Up front, the Eagles didn’t need five guards on the active roster, and Morris earned one of the final spots on the 53. Landon Dickerson and Tyler Steen are the starters, Drew Kendall is the No. 3 guard, and Willie Lampkin is another backup guard/center. Morris is still limited to guard at this stage, but his strong preseason kept him around, and he’ll keep developing in practice.
At receiver, Cooper got the edge over Moore because of his physical style and his ability to make tough catches over the middle. He also brings an important special teams role, which helped him land the No. 5 receiver job. With the run game expected to be prevalent on Sunday, the Eagles also wanted outside blockers, and Cooper fits that need as the biggest wide receiver on the team and arguably the most physical.

Eagles Already Have An NFC East Threat Fans Didn't Expect
The Eagles opened the 2026 season in the familiar spot atop the NFC East, but the early picture around the division already looks a little different than expected. At 1-0, Philadelphia is off to a clean start, while the biggest surprise so far may be the New York Giants, who also won in Week 1 and are hanging around as an early threat behind quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Dallas and Washington, meanwhile, are already dealing with the kind of first-week problems that can make a division race feel lopsided fast. The Cowboys dropped to 0-1 with concerns lingering on defense, and the Commanders also fell to 0-1 while their offensive line drew scrutiny, leaving the Eagles looking like the team to beat even as the Giants quietly make things more interesting than many expected. Howie Roseman Looks Better After Ex Eagles Starter's Brutal Debut
Reed Blankenships first game after leaving Philadelphia did not go smoothly. After signing a three-year deal with the Texans, the former Eagles starter was thrown right into a tough opening test against Buffalo and spent much of the afternoon chasing the ball instead of making plays on it, giving up six catches on six targets in a rough coverage debut.
For Eagles fans, it is the kind of early result that makes Howie Roseman look a little better in hindsight, even if one game hardly settles anything. Houston lost the opener, Blankenship drew a low Pro Football Focus grade, and now he is headed into another difficult matchup with Cincinnati, which will give him a quick chance to steady things before the questions around his fit really start to grow. Eagles Bring Back A Familiar Specialist As Offensive Line Concern Grows
The Eagles added a familiar face back to the 53-man roster by elevating Britain Covey from the practice squad after he spent the first week of the 2026 season there. Covey has been in Philadelphia for five years and has carved out his role mostly as a punt returner, giving the team a steady, known option in the kicking game.
The roster move comes as the Eagles also signed tight end Josiah Deguara to the practice squad and placed left guard Landon Dickerson on injured reserve. Dickersons status puts a spotlight on the interior of the offensive line, forcing Philadelphia to keep adjusting around a spot that had already become a concern early in the season. [Read more 🡒]
