Eagles Tap Vikings Assistant to Replace Longtime Offensive Line Leader

Amid a pivotal offseason reshuffle, the Eagles turn to familiar Viking ties in hopes of reviving an offense that fell flat in 2025.

The Philadelphia Eagles are clearly in reset mode after a 2025 season that started with Super Bowl aspirations and ended with a thud-a home playoff loss to the 49ers in the Wild Card round. The front office isn’t wasting time, either.

After parting ways with offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, the Eagles have handed the keys to the offense to Sean Mannion. And now, they’re continuing to retool the offensive staff around him.

The latest addition? Chris Kuper, who’s coming in as the new offensive line coach.

Kuper spent the last four seasons coaching the offensive line in Minnesota, where he overlapped with Mannion on the Vikings’ staff. That familiarity likely played a big role in this hire-Mannion’s building a staff he knows and trusts, and Kuper fits that bill.

Kuper inherits an offensive line group that, on paper, remains one of the most talented in the NFL. Philadelphia has long prided itself on dominating the trenches, and even in a down year, the line was far from the team’s biggest issue. But the offense as a whole sputtered in 2025, and the regression was hard to ignore.

Saquon Barkley, fresh off a monster 2024 campaign, struggled to find rhythm or running lanes last season. The passing game wasn’t much better.

Despite having one of the league’s most dangerous receiving duos in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, the Eagles couldn’t consistently get them involved.

Whether that was a schematic issue, a quarterback issue, or some combination of both is still up for debate. But the front office saw enough to know something had to change.

Jalen Hurts, who’s shown MVP-caliber flashes in the past, didn’t look like the same player in 2025. The offense lacked identity, rhythm, and explosiveness-three things this team has thrived on in recent years.

That’s where Mannion and Kuper come in. Their challenge is not just to fix what went wrong, but to reimagine how this offense can function at its highest level again.

Of course, coaching changes are only one piece of the puzzle. The roster could still see movement, especially with growing speculation around A.J.

Brown’s future in Philly. His relationship with the team has reportedly become tense, and while nothing is imminent, fans are already wondering whether a blockbuster trade could be on the horizon.

For now, though, the Eagles are focused on getting the right people in the building. Kuper’s addition is another step in that direction-a move that brings continuity for Mannion and, potentially, a fresh spark for a unit that desperately needs one.

There’s still a long road between now and Week 1, and plenty of questions left to answer. But one thing’s clear: the Eagles aren’t standing pat. They’re making moves, and they’re doing it with urgency.
