The Philadelphia Eagles may be circling back to a familiar name as they sort through an early defensive headache.
With Jonathan Greenard dealing with a pec injury that could keep him out to open the season, Philadelphia is being linked to Haason Reddick as a possible answer, according to Bleacher Report. The idea is simple enough: if Greenard isn’t ready, the Eagles may need another edge presence in a hurry.
“A reunion would make sense, as Jonathan Greenard is now dealing with a pectoral injury and could miss the start of the regular season,” Bleacher Report wrote.
Reddick already knows the Eagles well. He was with the team in 2022 and 2023, and those were the two best seasons of his career. He put up 16 sacks in 2022 and 11 more in 2023 before moving on to the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
There’s no guarantee Philadelphia would get the same version of Reddick again, but the fit is easy to understand. He’d be stepping back into a defense built around a strong front, one that has been led in recent seasons by Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter.
Greenard was acquired in a trade during the offseason and then signed to a four-year, $98 million extension. His situation changed in July, when he was placed on the physically unable to perform list after suffering a pec strain while lifting before camp.
If Greenard’s recovery takes longer than expected, bringing back Reddick would give the Eagles a quick fix and a player who already knows the building, the scheme, and the expectations.
