With Jalen Hurts done for the 2026 season, the Eagles are again staring straight at the quarterback pipeline.
Howie Roseman has made this kind of bet before. More than six years ago, he told reporters, “We want to be a quarterback factory.”
He said it while the Eagles used a second-round pick on Hurts in the 2020 NFL Draft even though Carson Wentz was already signed long term. Roseman called Hurts a high-upside backup and a possible starter down the line, and the move paid off when Hurts helped deliver a Super Bowl title.
Now, with Hurts under contract for two more years, Roseman has another opening to think ahead.
Hurts was moved to injured reserve before Philadelphia’s Week 6 loss after suffering a calf blood clot against the Rams in Week 4. A later update showed the clot had also spread to his lungs, and he’ll need blood thinners for the next few months.
That ends his season. Tanner McKee is set to run the offense from here, but he and Joe Milton are both scheduled to hit restricted free agency in March.
Philadelphia also owns eight picks in the 2027 NFL Draft, giving Roseman plenty of room to target another quarterback. Three names stand out.
Miami’s Darian Mensah looks like the biggest swing. The Hurricanes are 6-0 and sitting No. 1 in the AP rankings for the first time since 2002, and Mensah has been central to the rise. The junior leads all of college football with an 80.8% completion rate and owns an 18:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
His game is built on composure. Mensah stays calm in the pocket, throws receivers open, and can shift enough to escape when the protection breaks down.
At 6'3", he also brings the kind of movement that can turn a broken play into a first down. The one thing he’ll have to tighten up is the turnovers.
He’s expected to be a high first-round pick, though that picture can still change before June. If the Eagles end up with a top-10 selection, Mensah could be in range. If not, Roseman would probably need to trade up.
That kind of gamble would be a clear signal about where Philadelphia sees its future.
A different path would be Alabama’s Ty Simpson Chambliss, who has taken off since becoming the starter at Ole Miss. In 21 games, he has completed 66.6% of his passes for 5,613 yards and 36 touchdowns against seven interceptions. He has also added 654 rushing yards and 14 scores on the ground.
There’s real intrigue there, even if the age and background raise eyebrows. Chambliss is already 24, and most of his college career came at the Division II level.
Still, the upside jumps off the screen. His off-script creativity and downfield touch make him one of the more entertaining quarterbacks in the class.
His draft range is wide, stretching from the first round to Day 2. He also showed patience while sitting behind Ole Miss starter Austin Simmons before his chance came. If he slips, the Eagles could pounce and stash him behind Hurts.
Then there’s LaNorris Sellers, the kind of dual-threat quarterback Philadelphia’s front office has already seen thrive. Sellers has an elite arm and regularly drives the ball 50-plus yards downfield.
At 6'3" and 240 pounds, he has the frame to shrug off pass rushers and power through defenders for extra yards. Quarterback sneaks would not be a problem.
The concern is the same one that follows a lot of young quarterbacks with big tools: he holds the ball too long. To make it at the NFL level, he’ll need to speed things up in the pocket. But for a late-round swing, that kind of raw upside is exactly the appeal.

Eagles Fans Suddenly Have Real Reason To Watch Shane Steichen
The Colts decision to fire general manager Chris Ballard after a sluggish start has inevitably put Shane Steichen back in the spotlight, and for Eagles fans, it is a familiar one. Steichen spent two seasons as Philadelphias offensive coordinator in 2021-22, when the offense grew into one of the leagues most dangerous units, and he has spent the last four years trying to steady things in Indianapolis as head coach.
Steichens overall record there sits at 27-30, and with the Colts now resetting in the front office, his future is suddenly a talking point again. If Indianapolis eventually makes a bigger change, Philadelphia would be a natural place to wonder about a reunion, especially with the Eagles still searching for answers on offense and the old connection to Steichen never far from the surface. Eagles Week 7 Showdown Could Change Who Survives This Collapse
The Eagles season has already veered into survival mode, and the next stretch figures to tell a lot about who, if anyone, gets to keep their footing once the losses stop piling up. At 2-4 and in the middle of a four-game skid, Philadelphia has seen the margin for error shrink fast, with a number of familiar faces suddenly under the microscope as the frustration around the roster and coaching staff keeps growing.
Saquon Barkley, Landon Dickerson, Offensive Coordinator Sean Mannion and Head Coach Nick Sirianni are all part of the conversation now, because a collapsing season tends to turn every week into a referendum. Week 7 looms as the kind of checkpoint that can change the tone around the building, and for some in the organization, it may also change how long their jobs are safe. [Read more 🡒]
Cowboys Suddenly Have A Real Opening In The NFC East
The NFC East has spent the last couple of weeks looking anything but sturdy, with all four teams hitting the kind of rough patch that makes every divisional game feel bigger than usual. The latest reminder came in the form of a tie between Washington and New York, a result that only added to the sense that nobody in this group is seizing control. Dallas, sitting at 2-4, has at least kept itself in the mix, and the standings have left the Cowboys with a real path to move up if things break their way.
Philadelphia enters the matchup dealing with a major setback at quarterback, which only sharpens the stakes for a Cowboys team trying to take advantage of the moment. The Giants are technically on top for now, but their own issues are piling up, including the loss of Jaxson Dart and a tough date with the Texans ahead. In a division this messy, even one good night can shift the picture quickly, and Dallas suddenly has a chance to make the most of it. [Read more 🡒]
