The Eagles have already dipped back into familiar territory once this week by signing Zach Ertz, and now another former Super Bowl contributor is making his pitch to return.
Mekhi Becton, the guard who helped Philadelphia win Super Bowl LIX and is now a free agent, was asked by an Eagles fan when he was “coming back home.”
“Tell them to call me, man,” Becton replied, courtesy of Gridiron Access.
That answer landed at a time when some Eagles fans are openly pressing GM Howie Roseman to address an offensive line that has looked shaky just two weeks into the season. In Week 1, left guard Landon Dickerson called himself a “liability” while playing through injury, then landed on injured reserve and forced Philadelphia to reshuffle the interior.
The adjustments continued in Week 2, when Cam Jurgens slid to left guard and Drew Kendall took over at center. Kendall held up well, but Jurgens had some rough stretches. One snap in particular - Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons overpowering Jurgens and impacting Jalen Hurts on a key interception - only added fuel to the calls for help.
That’s why Becton’s name keeps coming up, even though the chatter started well before the season. Plenty around the team have wondered whether Roseman might circle back to the lineman who became a real success story in 2024.
Becton started 15 games at guard during the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX run, helping keep Hurts upright and carving out room for Saquon Barkley’s record-setting season. It was a sharp turn for a player who entered the league as a 2020 first-round tackle with the New York Jets and never lived up to that billing there. In Philadelphia, former offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland turned him into a one-year reclamation project that worked.
After that season, Becton landed a two-year, $20 million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers. He was released after a disappointing 2025 season and has been a free agent since.
Still, a reunion is not a simple plug-and-play idea. The fit with new Eagles offensive line coach Chris Kuper and the outside run scheme new coordinator Sean Mannion is installing is far from certain.
Philadelphia also has reasons to be patient with Jurgens. He had never played left guard before Sunday, and he said after the game that his play will improve.
If the line needs more reinforcement, the Eagles do have one internal option they trust in Willie Lampkin, who had a strong summer at center/guard. Beyond Lampkin, Kendall and Jurgens, though, the depth gets thin fast. Sixth-round rookie Micah Morris is the only other interior offensive lineman on the roster.
So if Dickerson’s stint on injured reserve stretches beyond the required four games, it would not be a surprise if Roseman at least checks in with Becton. At minimum, he could give Philadelphia another body on the interior.

Eagles May Have Found A Cheap Answer At WR2
The Eagles did not have to pay a premium to add Dontayvion Wicks, but the early returns have looked anything but ordinary. After coming over from Green Bay in a trade for future draft picks and landing an extension, Wicks has made an immediate case for a bigger role in Philadelphias offense, giving the team a cost-effective option alongside its established passing game.
Through the first two games, Wicks has caught seven passes for 147 yards and a touchdown, production that has already helped him earn Jalen Hurts trust. For a team always balancing star power with roster value, the appeal is obvious: if Wicks keeps this up, Philadelphia may have found a much cheaper answer than most teams get at wide receiver two.
