Eagles Suddenly Have A Dallas Goedert Problem They Can't Ignore

As the Eagles navigate a concerning injury to key player Dallas Goedert, the team's potential strategies for filling this crucial gap could shape their season.

The Eagles got out of Nashville with a 24-20 win over the Titans on Sunday, but the bigger story coming out of Week 2 is the health of a roster that already has a few shaky spots.

At the top of that list is Dallas Goedert.

The Eagles tight end went down in the second quarter after awkwardly hitting the turf while trying to block. He did not come back, and that left the offense leaning on blocking tight end Johnny Mundt, who finished with two catches for eight yards in Goedert’s place.

The exact damage to Goedert’s knee is still unknown, but the early chatter has been uneasy. On social media, medical experts offered their reads from the video.

“This could potentially be concerning, and could arrange anything from an MCL sprain +/- meniscus to something more concerning,” Doctor Jesse Morse posted on X. “Eagles haven’t released any information yet, but from the video alone concern is for MCL injury,” orthopedic physical therapist Maddox McCloud said, via X.

Former NFL doctor David J. Chao said that Goedert escaped a major right knee injury.

If it turns out to be an MCL sprain, the recovery window can range from one week to two months, according to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Meniscus injuries take longer.

The Eagles may find out soon that Goedert avoided a long-term problem. But if he’s out for a while, replacing what he brings in the passing game would be a real issue.

Mundt and E.J. Jenkins simply don’t offer much upside as receivers.

That matters because Goedert had already reminded everyone what he can do. In last Sunday’s Week 1 win over the Washington Commanders, he caught four passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns and looked like one of the NFL’s best tight ends again.

His injury history is part of the concern, too. Goedert missed 22 games from 2020-2024 because of injuries, and he has already missed one game during the 2025 season because of an injury.

Saquon Barkley also left Sunday’s game after taking a stinger on the first play against the Titans. He missed the rest of the first half, came back in the third quarter, and lasted only a few plays before sitting out the rest of the game. Afterward, Barkley told reporters he would be fine.

Tight end depth has been a problem for Philadelphia for a bit now. Second-round rookie Eli Stowers was placed on injured reserve before Week 1, and even once he returns, he is not expected to make an impact this season because he’s extremely raw.

That leaves the Eagles with a clear need. Stowers could develop into a productive receiving tight end down the line, but right now they need another backup who can actually help the offense this season.

One possible answer is Zach Ertz, who is currently a free agent. Ertz spent nine seasons with the Eagles from 2013-2021 and ranks second in franchise history with 579 receptions. In his last year with the Commanders in 2025, he had 50 catches for 504 yards and four touchdowns before tearing his ACL in December.

If not Ertz, the Eagles could go the trade route during the season.

However they handle it, the message is pretty simple: Goedert is central to what Philadelphia wants to do on offense, and with his injury history, the team is taking a real gamble by not adding another tight end soon.

Jalen Hurts Had A Message After An Eagles Win Titans Fans Wont Like

Jeffery Simmons made it clear before kickoff that Tennessees plan was to keep Jalen Hurts from escaping the pocket and to cut off his running lanes, and for much of the day the Titans did enough of that to make life uncomfortable. Hurts was under pressure and sacked three times, but the Eagles kept hanging around, and when the game tightened late, the quarterback had one more answer left.

With the outcome in the balance, Hurts guided a 65-yard drive in the final two minutes and finished it with a touchdown pass to Darius Cooper to seal a 24-20 win. The comeback left Philadelphia at 2-0, and Hurts postgame message was the kind Titans fans probably did not want to hear after all that talk about containing him. [Read more 🡒]

Eagles Are 2-0 But This Win Exposed A Real Offensive Problem

The Eagles are 2-0, and the latest win still managed to leave a familiar aftertaste on offense. Jalen Hurts did what he has so often done in big moments, steering a game-winning drive despite throwing two interceptions, but the path there was bumpy enough to keep attention on the parts of the unit that did not hold up as well as the result suggests.

The issues were scattered, but the offensive line drew the sharpest focus, with Cam Jurgens and Drew Kendall both part of a front that struggled to provide much comfort. Philadelphia also had to navigate injuries and uneven play at tight end, while the running game never really found a rhythm, leaving the Eagles with a win and a reminder that the current version of the offense still has some real questions to answer. Eagles Face An Early Test Chicago Could Complicate Fast

The Eagles are off to a 2-0 start and now head into a Week 3 matchup with the Bears in a spot that looks favorable on paper but carries a few wrinkles. Chicagos quarterback situation is unsettled after Caleb Williams suffered a hamstring injury, and backup Tyson Bagent may be the one lining up against Philadelphia if Williams cannot go. Even with the Eagles favored by 3.5 points, this has the feel of an early-season checkpoint for a team still trying to sharpen itself.

Philadelphia has not covered the spread in either of its first two games, so a clean win would do more than keep the record perfect. It would also help answer some of the questions that have lingered through the opening stretch, particularly on defense, where a return from Jonathan Greenard could give the group a timely lift. For an Eagles team trying to separate itself from the pack, this is the kind of game that can either calm the early noise or keep a few concerns hanging around. [Read more 🡒]
