Tank Bigsby didn’t light up the stat sheet Sunday, but he gave the Eagles exactly the kind of run they needed when Saquon Barkley went down early.
With Barkley limited after a neck/stinger injury on the opening play of Philadelphia’s 24-20 win at Tennessee, Bigsby became the workhorse in the backfield. He logged 13 carries for 33 yards and a two-yard touchdown, and he added two receptions for five more yards.
On paper, the 2.5 yards per carry looks ordinary. In the building, it landed differently.
Nick Sirianni made that clear Monday, praising Bigsby’s toughness, effort, and dependability after a game that asked him to do more than usual.
“As always, Tank’s going to play extremely hard and have some dirty runs in there because he runs so hard,” Sirianni said. “I think about that one that’s down near the goal line where he keeps his feet driving and gets us all the way down to the three-yard line and then caps it off [with] the touchdown.
That sequence summed up Bigsby’s afternoon. He took contact, kept churning, and helped finish a drive that tied the game in the second quarter and gave Philadelphia its first points of the day. He also chipped in on special teams, where he delivered a notable tackle on punt coverage.

He’s such a good teammate and he’s constantly doing the little things he needs to do to help the team win. It’s great to see him be rewarded with a touchdown yesterday and a couple nice runs.
“You knew he would be ready to go. I thought he played solidly.
Like anybody, everyone’s going to want some things back from the game. There are things to work on, but I thought he played solidly and did some nice things to help us win and did some nice things for us on special teams as well.
But that’s the type of teammate he is and he’s constantly working. He’s just a great teammate.”
Bigsby has mostly operated as the complement to Barkley since arriving in a trade from Jacksonville early in the 2025 season. Sunday was his biggest chance yet to shoulder a heavier load in a tight road game, and he handled it with the kind of physical style the Eagles value.
Tennessee’s front made life hard on everybody. Philadelphia finished with just 89 rushing yards as a team.
Even in that kind of grind, Bigsby found ways to help, especially in short-yardage spots and in moments when the offense needed him to stay steady and available.
Barkley did return after halftime, but he finished with only four carries for nine yards. What Bigsby’s role looks like next will depend on Barkley’s status after further evaluation.
For one afternoon, though, the backup did more than hold the line. The numbers were modest. The work, the finish at the goal line, the special-teams contribution, and the coach’s praise were not.
