PHILADELPHIA - Tank Bigsby was nowhere to be seen in uniform Thursday, as the Eagles backup running back sat out practice at the Jefferson Health Training Complex after absorbing a heavy workload in Sunday’s 24-20 win over the Tennessee Titans.
Whether Bigsby is dealing with an injury or simply getting a rest day isn’t clear. What is clear is that he took plenty of contact in Nashville and still came away with a productive afternoon. He handled 13 carries for 33 yards and a touchdown, helping the Eagles close out the Titans at Nissan Stadium.
Bigsby stepped in after Saquon Barkley left in the first quarter with a stinger and missed most of the game. The numbers weren’t flashy - 2.5 yards per carry - but the runs mattered, especially when the game got tight and physical.
One sequence stood out. In the second quarter, Bigsby powered through a pile of Titans defenders and drove them all the way to the goal line before punching in a touchdown on the next snap.
“As always, Tank’s going to play extremely hard and have some dirty runs in there because he runs so hard,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said on Monday. “I think about that one that’s down near the goal line where he keeps his feet driving and gets us all the way down to the three and then caps it off [with] the touchdown.
Obviously, a great sequence there for Tank. Tank made a tackle on special teams yesterday on punt that was pretty awesome to see.
He’s such a good teammate and he’s constantly doing the little things he needs to do to help the team win. It’s great to see him be rewarded with a touchdown yesterday and a couple nice runs.
You knew he would be ready to go. I thought he played solidly.”
With the Bears next on the schedule, the Eagles are hoping Barkley is ready to go - especially if Bigsby can’t answer the bell.
