The Philadelphia Eagles got through most of Friday’s training camp session with plenty to like, then watched it end on a bleak note when rookie offensive lineman Jaeden Roberts went down with a serious leg injury.
Practice had gone well for most of the day, and head coach Nick Sirianni later said the defense won the session after piling up a number of big plays. The offense had its moments, too, but the mood shifted late when Roberts was hurt on the final play of the developmental period. Medical staff rushed to him immediately, and a cart was brought onto the field.
Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reported the severity of the scene on X soon after. “Eagles rookie guard Jaeden Roberts suffered what appears to be a significant injury to his left leg.
The cart is out. The injury occurred during the last play of the developmental period,” McLane wrote.
Roberts arrived in camp trying to carve out a roster spot after signing with Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft. The former Alabama guard had turned heads at the NFL Combine, putting up 25 bench press reps and running a 5.31-second 40-yard dash. He gave the Eagles useful depth on the interior line and had been working with the third group during camp and preseason prep.
His college résumé included one season at Alabama, where he started four games and played in 10. He also dealt with injuries during his college career after entering the season as a preseason All-American candidate. Philadelphia also added former Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson as an undrafted free agent after the draft.
The injury lands in an area the Eagles had already spent part of the offseason trying to stabilize after injuries hit the group last year. The team drafted rookies Markel Bell and Micah Morris in the 2026 NFL Draft to add more strength up front, but Roberts was another depth piece they were counting on.
Now the team may have to adjust quickly. Coaches will likely lean more heavily on other young linemen as camp continues, and outside help could become part of the conversation if Philadelphia needs more depth. Some analysts and media members have floated a reunion with former Eagles lineman Mekhi Becton, who was part of Philadelphia’s 2024 Super Bowl team, though general manager Howie Roseman has not made a move in that direction.
For now, the focus is on Roberts and the extent of the damage to his left leg.
