The Eagles’ Week 5 inactive list brought the expected bad news on Jonathan Greenard, and then a few more familiar names followed him off the field.
Philadelphia officially ruled Greenard out for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars after he missed practice all week with an ankle injury. The team gave him a pregame workout Sunday morning, but it wasn’t enough to get him cleared.
Greenard has been available in just two of the Eagles’ first five games this season, and now Philadelphia will move forward with Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, Arnold Ebiketie and A.J. Epenesa as its four edge defenders.
Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, Drew Kendall, Marcus Epps and Hollywood Brown were also listed as out on the final injury report.
Barkley’s absence leaves the Eagles with Will Shipley, Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele as the active backs. Shipley is the likeliest player to handle the bulk of the work, while Pierce could have a role if the Eagles want a little more burst. Steele, at least on paper, doesn’t appear headed for much volume.
At receiver, Philadelphia is down Smith and Brown, which means the active group is Dontayvion Wicks, Darius Cooper, Makai Lemon, Elijah Moore and Britain Covey.
Kendall being unavailable pushes Jake Majors into the starting center job after being called up from the practice squad. It’s his first NFL regular season game and his first career start.
The Eagles will also turn to Michael Carter II for Epps’ spot at safety in nickel looks when Cooper DeJean moves into the slot.
John Ojukwu is active as well, and it marks his Eagles regular season debut after being temporarily elevated from the practice squad for the game.
Cole Payton is up for the first time in his career. He would normally be the emergency third quarterback, but Philadelphia had enough players ruled out that it can keep him active instead. If he doesn’t get on the field on special teams, he’ll be the third QB option behind Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee now that Andy Dalton is gone.
Jacksonville’s inactive list came with no real surprises. Depth corner Jaylon Jones had already been ruled out on the final injury report, and starting safety Eric Murray was doubtful heading into the game.
The Jaguars’ inactive list: CJ Williams, Alijah Huzzie, Eric Murray, Jaylon Jones, Daniel Faalele, Wesley Williams and Albert Regis.

Jordan Mailata Suddenly Has To Carry A Bigger Eagles Burden
Jordan Mailata has had little time to settle into the week after a narrow loss in London, because the Eagles offensive line took two more hits before turning its attention to Carolina. With Lane Johnson retiring and Cam Jurgens traded to the Ravens, Mailata found himself talking about both the on-field frustration and the sudden reshuffling around him as Philadelphia tries to steady itself after three straight losses.
For Mailata, the burden now goes beyond protecting the edge. He spoke about the challenges the group has faced, the need to keep the unit together through adversity, and the leadership role that comes with being one of the anchors left standing. Even with the recent skid, he still sounded confident in the locker rooms unity and in the teams ability to respond against the Panthers. [Read more 🡒]
Ravens Primetime Stakes Suddenly Feel Bigger Than Just Beating Atlanta
The Week 5 slate already has an international wrinkle for the Eagles, with a trip overseas on the schedule as part of Sundays early action, but the bigger league-wide intrigue might sit later in the day. Baltimore gets the primetime stage against Atlanta, and the matchup carries a little extra weight in a week where every result starts to sort out the early season pecking order.
For Philadelphia, the appeal is obvious: anything that helps clarify the standings around the conference is worth watching closely, especially with the schedule bringing so many consequential games in the same window. The Ravens-Falcons spotlight does not decide anything for the Eagles on its own, but it does shape the backdrop of a week that feels like it could matter much more than just one Sunday result. Eagles Offense Faces Early Pressure In A Game Fans Can't Ignore
After the loss in London, the Eagles are back home for a Week 6 meeting with Carolina, and it is the kind of spot that can sharpen the focus around an offense still searching for rhythm. Philadelphia enters as a slim 1.5-point favorite, but the bigger issue is not the number on the spread so much as the way the unit has looked and the injuries adding pressure to an already uneven start.
Carolina brings a different kind of challenge to Lincoln Financial Field, with Bryce Young driving an offense that has been more productive than expected. The Panthers also arrive well-rested after a bye, which only raises the urgency for the Eagles to clean things up quickly and avoid letting a vulnerable stretch turn into something more damaging.
