The Eagles may not be done dealing before camp closes, and the next move could come into focus after this week’s joint practices with the New England Patriots.
Howie Roseman has been quiet so far this training camp, but that hardly means he’s standing still. He’s one of the league’s most aggressive general managers, and last August he showed it by swinging five trades in a matter of weeks. This time around, the volume may be lower, but another move or two before the season would not be a surprise.
The biggest reason Philadelphia could look outside the building is simple: the skill spots still feel unsettled. Beyond DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert, the Eagles are leaning on a group with plenty left to prove.
Goedert has missed 22 games during his eight-year career because of injuries, and the depth behind him is shaky. Johnny Mundt is a strong blocker but not much of a receiving threat, while Eli Stowers, the Eagles’ second-round pick in 2026, is still raw in the run game and has not shown much as a pass catcher.
Wide receiver has similar questions. First-round rookie Makai Lemon has missed most of camp with a hamstring injury, and that could slow his start once the games count.
Dontayvion Wicks has flashed at times and had a good camp, but he’s also had stretches where he’s simply gone quiet. He spent three years with the Green Bay Packers and never rose above the No. 3 or No. 4 role, so asking him to become a reliable No. 2 in Philadelphia would be a leap.
That’s why a move for a playmaker makes sense, especially at wide receiver or tight end. Roseman will be watching New England closely this week, and one name that stands out is Kayshon Boutte.
MassLive.com projected that Boutte will not make the Patriots’ 53-man roster, and the outlet also reported that he requested a trade in April. There are no reports tying the Eagles to him, but he fits the profile of a player Philadelphia could target: productive, still on the final year of his rookie deal, and available if another team decides to move on.
Boutte finished last season with 33 catches for 551 yards and 6 touchdowns as one of New England’s starting receivers.
Quarterback is another spot that could get interesting. The Eagles could draw more outside interest for Andy Dalton than for Tanner McKee, largely because Dalton brings experience and a résumé other teams may value more than McKee’s upside.
McKee’s rookie contract runs through the 2026 season, but his camp has included issues with holding the ball too long and missing open receivers. Dalton has looked more comfortable in the offense, outplaying McKee early in camp, though his recent stretch has been less effective.
The competition remains close, and the quarterback who performs better against the Patriots could emerge as the favorite for the job. If Dalton wins the backup role, Roseman could try to turn McKee into a late-round pick.
That would fit the way McKee’s year has gone so far: he struggled in the Eagles’ Week 18 loss to the Washington Commanders last year and again in the preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday night. He once looked like a promising prospect, but he has not taken enough of a step forward to carry major trade value.
There’s also a path where Dalton himself becomes a trade chip. The Eagles gave up a 2027 seventh-round pick to get him from the Carolina Panthers in March, and Roseman could potentially recoup that kind of value by moving him to another team five months later.
