The Eagles still have questions to answer at wide receiver, and one insider thinks a familiar trade partner could help.
Eliot Shorr-Parks posted on X that Philadelphia “should consider trying to trade for (Kayshon Boutte)” as the team works through training camp and tries to build around Jalen Hurts this season. The idea comes at a time when the Eagles have already moved on from AJ Brown, leaving DeVonta Smith in the WR1 spot and raising the stakes on how he handles the extra attention that comes with it.
There’s also uncertainty behind him. Rookie Makai Lemon has the kind of upside that makes him worth watching, but he still has to get through the usual first-year growing pains.
Dontayvion Wicks is listed in the WR3 role, while Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, and Johnny Wilson sit in backup spots. Against that backdrop, Boutte starts to look like a player who could slide into the mix quickly.
Boutte’s appeal isn’t hard to see. The Patriots receiver has said he wants to move on from the organization he reached the Super Bowl with in 2025, and he has already shown he can produce. The former sixth-round pick caught 43 passes in 2024 for 589 yards and three touchdowns, then followed that with 33 catches for 551 yards and six scores last year.
He was once a bigger part of New England’s plans, but his role changed after the Patriots traded for AJ Brown and signed Romeo Doubs in free agency. Even so, the production and the touchdown total still give him some value, especially for a Philadelphia offense that could use more certainty at the position.
Boutte is also entering a contract year, and he said he’s trying to keep his focus on the present, according to NBC Sports.
“I think my attitude - We all hear a lot of the stuff that’s going on,” Boutte said, via NBCSportsBoston.com. “I think my main focus was just that I’m here ’til I ain’t.
My feet are here today. If I’m somewhere else next week, the week after, that’s kind of what it is.
That’s part of the business. I’m taking every day, day by day, not thinking about what’s next.”
