Eagles Quickly Cut OC Candidate After Giants Make Bold Coaching Move

The Eagles' offensive coordinator search took a sharp turn as a top target joined a division rival, raising the stakes in Philadelphias high-stakes hunt.

The Philadelphia Eagles' search for a new offensive coordinator just got a little more interesting-and a bit more urgent.

One name that could've made sense for Philly is officially off the board. The New York Giants, one of the Eagles’ biggest NFC East rivals, are closing in on a major coaching hire, reportedly finalizing a deal to bring in former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. And he’s not coming alone.

Harbaugh is expected to bring in a familiar face to run the offense: former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken. According to reports, Monken is set to reprise his role as OC, this time in New York, reuniting with Harbaugh after a successful stint in Baltimore.

Now, to be clear-Monken was never publicly linked to the Eagles’ opening. But he checked a lot of the boxes Philly is looking for in their next play-caller.

The Eagles are targeting someone who can take full ownership of the offense, someone who won’t need-or want-head coach Nick Sirianni peeking over their shoulder. Monken fits that mold.

He’s experienced, creative, and has a track record of developing quarterbacks, most notably helping Lamar Jackson evolve into a more complete passer and win the 2023 NFL MVP.

So while this isn’t a direct loss for the Eagles, it does sting a bit. Not only is Monken unavailable, but he’s now likely to be game-planning against them twice a year. And with the Giants reportedly rolling with Jaxson Dart at quarterback, Harbaugh and Monken will be tasked with unlocking the potential of a young passer in a division that’s already stacked with talent under center.

For Philly, the focus now shifts to the remaining top candidates-most notably former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and ex-Giants head coach Brian Daboll. Both bring serious offensive chops to the table.

Daboll, in particular, could be an intriguing fit. He already has ties to Jalen Hurts from their Alabama days and worked closely with Saquon Barkley in New York.

That familiarity with key players could give him a slight edge in the decision-making process.

The Eagles don’t need to panic. But with the Giants making bold moves and the NFC East only getting tougher, there’s added pressure on the front office to get this hire right. They’re not just picking a coordinator-they’re choosing the architect of Jalen Hurts’ next chapter and the person who will shape the identity of this offense moving forward.

And in a division where margins are razor-thin, that choice could be the difference between another deep playoff run-or watching from home.
