The Eagles head to Foxborough on Saturday night for their second preseason test, and the setup points to a familiar preseason formula: plenty of evaluation, very little time for the stars.
Philadelphia and New England already spent two days in joint practice before the game, giving the starters a chance to work through a controlled environment that head coach Nick Sirianni prefers. That kind of work usually means the top guys get quality reps against different looks, but it also makes it less likely they’ll see much, if any, action in the actual game.
That leaves the preseason spotlight where it usually belongs: on the depth chart and the operation around it. Eagles OC Sean Mannion said earlier in the week that preseason games are mostly about checking out depth players and getting a feel for game-day procedures. He also said he appears to be leaning toward calling plays from the sideline this season, but for this matchup he’s planning to test things from the booth so he can try both setups before settling on a plan for the year.

The Eagles’ preseason slate continues after this one with Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals on Aug. 28 at 8:00 PM ET on CBS. Their preseason opener is listed as Week 1 at the Baltimore Ravens on Aug. 25 at 7:00 PM ET on NBC10 and local channels.
The regular season opens Sept. 13 at home against the Washington Commanders at 4:25 PM ET on FOX. After that, Philadelphia goes to Tennessee in Week 2, visits Chicago for Monday Night Football in Week 3, hosts the Rams in Week 4, and then gets the Jaguars in London in Week 5. The rest of the early schedule includes home games against the Panthers, Cowboys, Giants, Steelers, Colts, and road trips to Washington, Dallas, and Arizona, with a bye in Week 10.
