The Philadelphia Eagles are heading into Sunday’s NFC East matchup with Washington already stretched thin, and Wednesday’s injury report only added to the concern.
Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith both missed practice, leaving two of Philadelphia’s biggest offensive names on the sideline as the team tries to stop a five-game losing streak. The Eagles opened the year 2-0, but they’ve been sliding ever since, and now they’re trying to steady themselves against the Commanders with a depleted roster.
“Wednesday's Injury Report,” posted the team account Wednesday evening.
Barkley and Smith were joined by fellow receivers Dontayvion Wicks and Britain Covey among the players who did not practice. On the other side of the ball, Jihaad Campbell and Jonathan Jones also sat out. Philadelphia listed six players as limited participants and had seven more who were full-go in practice.
The injury pileup doesn’t stop there. Jalen Hurts is also out indefinitely, leaving the Eagles to navigate a crucial stretch without one of their most important pieces.

Sunday’s game carries real weight in the NFC East race. Philadelphia already lost five straight after its Week 2, 24-20 win over the Tennessee Titans, and another defeat against Washington would make it six in a row.
The Eagles beat the Commanders 24-22 in Week 1, and a second win over Washington would at least keep them within reach of the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, who currently sit ahead of them in the division. But if the Eagles lose on the road, they’d fall to the bottom of the standings.
If Barkley and Smith can’t suit up, that task gets even tougher.

Eagles Trade Deadline Reality Just Got Hard To Ignore
Five straight losses have pushed the Eagles into an uncomfortable spot at the NFL trade deadline, where the conversation has shifted from adding help to potentially moving pieces out. With the season sliding and future draft capital suddenly carrying more weight, league chatter has started to circle around several names on the roster, especially players whose contracts make them easier to deal before the deadline passes.
Moro Ojomo has drawn the most attention among the expiring-contract options, while the broader list of possible trade candidates also includes Riq Woolen, Dallas Goedert and Kelee Ringo. Hollywood Brown is in the mix, too, after being a healthy scratch against the Panthers and then popping up in reporting as a player who could be on the move soon, which only adds to the sense that the Eagles are bracing for a deadline that could look a lot different than the one they planned for a few weeks ago. Nick Foles Just Turned Up The Heat On Eagles Culture
Former Eagles quarterback Nick Foles added a fresh layer to an already uncomfortable stretch in Philadelphia, questioning the state of the teams culture after the club dropped its fifth straight game. His comments pointed to a broader concern about how the locker room has changed since the departure of former offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, a name that carried real weight during the most stable years of the franchises recent run.
Nick Sirianni pushed back in his response, choosing not to get pulled into the noise around the losing streak. He said his focus remains on the relationships inside the building, with the Eagles trying to keep their attention where it belongs while outside criticism continues to pile up. [Read more 🡒]
Eagles Trade Deadline Talk Now Includes One Young Defensive Lineman
The Eagles slide and the growing injury list have pushed the front office into a different kind of trade-deadline conversation, one centered less on adding help and more on whether a few movable pieces could bring back value. Among the names drawing interest is defensive tackle Moro Ojomo, a young lineman whose steady emergence has made him one of the more intriguing possibilities if Philadelphia decides to listen on veterans and depth pieces.
Ojomos situation is complicated by both his promise and his contract status, which makes him the type of player other teams can project into a bigger role. Around the league, the fit would depend on which clubs are looking for interior help and how badly they want to chase it before the deadline, but the fact that his name is even part of the discussion says plenty about where the Eagles stand right now.
