Eagles Miss Out as Dream OC Candidate Quickly Joins Another Team

The Eagles pursuit of a top offensive mind hit an early snag as their dream candidate quickly found a new home elsewhere.

Brian Daboll is heading to Nashville.

After swirling speculation about his next move - including the possibility of a return to Philadelphia as offensive coordinator - Daboll is officially set to become the Tennessee Titans’ new OC. He’ll join forces with head coach Robert Saleh in what looks like a fresh offensive reboot in Tennessee. That also means Daboll will be tasked with developing rookie quarterback Cam Ward, who enters the NFL with plenty of upside but just as many questions.

For the Eagles, it’s back to the drawing board.

With Daboll off the table and most of the top names already spoken for, Philadelphia finds itself in a tricky spot. The OC search has reset, and the list of realistic candidates is thinning out fast.

Right now, one of the more logical options is Jim Bob Cooter - yes, the same Jim Bob Cooter who worked with Nick Sirianni during his first season as Eagles head coach back in 2021. Cooter’s currently the offensive coordinator in Indianapolis, where he’s quietly played a key role in helping the Colts’ offense stay competitive, even though he’s not the primary play-caller.

His work with Jonathan Taylor has been especially noteworthy, helping the star back remain one of the league’s most consistent weapons.

Another name still floating around is Kliff Kingsbury. He interviewed for the Eagles’ OC job back in 2024 before ultimately joining the Commanders.

That was the same offseason Philly opted for Kellen Moore. Now, with Moore out and the position open again, Kingsbury could be back in the mix - though nothing’s confirmed.

Then there’s Sean Mannion. The Packers’ quarterbacks coach is the only known candidate to receive a second interview with the Eagles, and his name is gaining real traction.

Mannion’s coaching résumé is short - just two years on the sidelines - but he’s already made an impression. If he lands the job, it would mark his second straight offseason promotion, a meteoric rise by NFL coaching standards.

Bottom line: the Eagles are in a bit of a bind. Daboll was a long shot, but a tempting one.

Now that he’s officially out of play, the pressure is on for Philly to find the right voice to lead their offense. With Jalen Hurts entering a pivotal stretch of his career and the team looking to bounce back from a rocky season, this hire isn’t just about X’s and O’s - it’s about setting the tone for what comes next.

Buckle up, Eagles fans. This offseason is just getting started, and the ride might get a little rough before it smooths out.
